How the Sabres’ scouting department prepared for the virtual NHL draft

‘“I think that it’s being open to any and all scenarios,” Adams said when asked about potentially trading the No. 8 pick. “Like I think I said earlier, I want to help our team get better. I want to help our team get better right now. But I also won’t make a decision or won’t recommend to make a decision that is not putting ourselves longer term in a good spot. … We like the position we’re in.”’

Column: Kevyn Adams needs to make it clear that Jack Eichel is untouchable

‘Adams, however, made for a bigger problem when he appeared on MSG’s team-sponsored show, “The Instigators”, and said, “My job is to listen. … We have no intention and we’re not looking to do anything with Jack.” That does not say “We’re not trading Jack Eichel.”‘

Sabres sign winger Tage Thompson to a three-year contract

‘Last September, Thompson showed during Prospects Challenge, training camp and preseason games that he learned to better use his size to make an impact in the offensive zone. He was no longer trying to stick-handle around opponents and his development translated on the ice with the Amerks, as he demonstrated an ability to drive play from the wing.’

NHL Draft, free agency will be critical tests for Sabres GM Kevyn Adams

‘“I’m learning,” said Adams, who had never worked in a hockey department before he replaced Jason Botterill on June 16. “I’ve been talking to the other general managers every day around the clock. And some of the veteran ones, even this morning that I talked to, they asked me how I’m doing. I said, ‘I’m excited. You know, it’s my first time through this.’ And they said, ‘Well, 10, 15 of them and you’re still nervous, excited and anxious and all those good things.”’

Sabres GM Kevyn Adams has no plans to trade Jack Eichel

‘“People call every day,” Adams said on a Zoom call in advance of the NHL Draft and free agency. “You listen and people bring players’ names up and ask, but I have no interest and no reason as I sit here today moving forward that you’d want to do something like that.”‘

Sabres re-sign Tage Thompson to three-year contract

‘Thompson scored six goals and nine points in eight-late season AHL contests after the Sabres sent him to the Amerks late in March 2019.’

Sabres GM Adams says he has no intention of trading Eichel

‘“I’m hoping I’m clarifying it for you, but that to me is an easy question, because we have no intention of doing that,” Adams said during the half-hour pre-draft session with reporters on Monday. “I have zero concern on Jack wanting to be here. I’ve had great conversations with him, his representatives. I’m not really sure where that’s coming from.”’

Sabres GM Adams talks ‘20 NHL Draft; Sabres have eighth pick, first round is tonight

‘I think we need to improve our roster – period. We need to become a better team. As I’ve had conversations, I haven’t eliminated anything because I say, “oh, we are fine here; we don’t want to talk about this.” If you just look at our team yes, we have more right-shot defense than left-shot defense, so would we like to see something, our mix, or how we get the partners working together? Definitely. But what I’ve tried to be very careful doing is I’m having conversations around the league and have been talking about options, not just boxing ourselves in and say we’re looking for this and this is it.’

Are the Buffalo Sabres Ready for the Draft?

‘As for the size of his staff, Crowe didn’t have a number for what his ideal scouting roster would look like once the dust settles, as he is still evaluating. He did ring off a number of benefits that he saw to the slimmed-down version he has been working with the past few months however: focused meetings, heightened sense of responsibility and clarity, for example.’

Sabres’ new hockey operations department ready for unique 2020 NHL Draft

‘”I think it’s been unique, just as it has been for anyone in not only hockey, but across all businesses,” Crowe said with the Buffalo media in a Zoom conference call on Monday. “The unique part I think would be setting a bit of a different process to re-evaluate the work that had previously been done for the draft and utilizing different video, watching players from different regions and being creative about setting up the best process leading into this draft.’
