Sabres set franchise record after suffering third straight shutout
‘”It’s quite embarrassing,” Sabres coach Phil Housley said. “Our coaching staff comes up with a game plan and I just don’t think we’re executing our game plan. Obviously we go into Montreal and we’re up against a good goaltender. Vasilevskiy is one of the best goaltenders in the league but in playing a backup goaltender, I didn’t think we took advantage of that tonight. We came close but you can’t give a good team like that two goals to start the game. They’re going to lock that in. You saw today that even though we had some fight in the third period. But the bottom line it is embarrassing.”‘
Mike Harrington: There’s no end in sight for this embarrassment
‘There is no passion, not nearly enough effort, less thinking and an all-out malaise that makes you wonder if losing is preferred.’
Sabres Notebook: Ristolainen admits to costly game; Jarry calm in shutout; Kane hits, gets earful
‘There was plenty of blame to go around after Buffalo made history by getting blanked for the third straight game, but Ristolainen shouldered his share. Aside from the turnover, he quarterbacked a power play that totaled one shot on four inept chances.’
The Wraparound: Pittsburgh 4, Sabres 0
‘Buffalo has just one win in its last 11 games and just four points in that span.’
WGR Sabres beat reporter loses 80 pounds to save his life
‘Fourteen months after surgery, Hamilton continues to work out regularly, doing a mix of high intensity cardio and resistance training exercises that stretch 20 seconds, with 10 seconds of rest in between. Byer looks to have Hamilton standing through many of them, using his body weight to build strength.’
Reeling Sabres blanked again, set franchise record for futility
‘“There’s a group of guys in that room that have to make a choice to turn it around,” Housley said. “It’s not going to be easy, it’s probably going to be one of the mentally tough things they’re going to have to deal with in their careers. Hopefully we’ll look back at this stretch and learn from it.”‘
Sabres’ Zemgus Girgensons mired in scoring slump
‘“It’s definitely tough, especially when you’re in those slumps, it’s in your mind and it’s not easy to get out,” Girgensons said. “You just stick with it, you do the system, you play the right way and it will come.”’
