Ristolainen finds light in dark season

‘Ristolainen has four goals and nine points during the last 12 games, bringing welcome relief as the 20-year-old nears the end of a trying season. He’s increased his totals to eight goals and 20 points in 76 games.’

No surprise: McDavid, Eichel still 1-2

‘The Sabres remain in prime position to land one of them. If they finish 30th – they are one regulation loss or an Arizona victory away – they will be guaranteed a top-two pick. The Coyotes play in Vancouver on Thursday and Buffalo visits Columbus on Friday.’

Sabres believe coach Ted Nolan has done well under difficult circumstances

‘He also knew he wasn’t truly general manager Tim Murray’s hire. While Murray awarded him the contract, Nolan’s friend Pat LaFontaine brought him back, the first act of his four-month run as president of hockey operations.’

Sam Reinhart going to Amerks; Connor McDavid ranks No. 1

‘Reinhart started the season with the Sabres, registering one assist in nine games. The 19-year-old center had 19 goals and 65 points in 47 appearances with the Ice. He also played a huge role in Team Canada’s gold medal run at the world junior championship earlier this season.’

Sabres change pace at practice with 3-on-3 tournament

‘“Sometimes you can work the guys without even knowing they’re working. A 3-on-3 tournament, we used to do that once a week in junior hockey,” he said. “It’s good for your conditioning. It’s good to read and react. It’s good to see who competes on a regular basis.”’
