Coyotes lose; 30th will have to wait for Sabres

‘The Sabres thus remain two points behind Arizona with two games to play. Buffalo (54 points) plays Friday at Columbus and hosts Pittsburgh in its season finale Saturday in First Niagara Center. Arizona (56 points) plays Thursday at Vancouver and closes its season Saturday at home against Anaheim.’

Sabres’ prospects make it to postseason

‘Reinhart, who did not score a goal in nine games with Buffalo in October, would not rejoin the Sabres for their final two games this weekend. That’s because if he played in one of them, he would burn the first year of his entry-level contract.’

Sabres prospect Nick Baptiste thriving in new role with Otters

‘“I think I’ve taken pride in being a guy reliable in his own end,” Baptiste said by phone Sunday. “I think in Sudbury I was a little bit more focused on scoring because I think I needed to be that No. 1 guy. I’m able to still produce offensively, but I’m put into situations where I can shut down defensively and go out there for the last faceoffs and D-zone faceoffs.”’

Sabres’ Ristolainen finishing on a high note

‘His defensive play slipped around the holidays, but once he got that straightened out, he’s been far and away Buffalo’s best defenseman. Ristolainen said, “I think I’ve been going forward in every situation.”‘

Sabres assign Schaller, Makarov to Amerks

‘The Buffalo Sabres have announced the team has assigned forward Tim Schaller and goaltender Andrey Makarov to the Rochester Americans of the American Hockey League (AHL).’
