‘“These types of things, they hurt,” defenseman Mike Weber said. “Our fans have been very supportive, but at the same time you don’t want to disappoint people. You don’t want that feeling walking around town that you’ve disappointed people or you’re letting people down, especially a hard-working city like Buffalo. I think to every man, we’ve accepted the challenge.”‘

‘“I think they were aware of me a little more,” Scott said Monday as the Buffalo Sabres cleaned out their lockers at First Niagara Center. “I think after the incidents with Boston and Toronto, they were looking out for me a little more but it got a little better at the end of the year where I didn’t get calls where I got them at the beginning of the year, but the refs know who the guys are. I think they were looking out for me a little more than they usually would be.”’
‘Last-place Buffalo has a 25 percent chance of winning the lottery and keeping the first overall pick. Florida, which finished 29th, has an 18.8 percent chance.’
‘“Obviously it was a season that we have to make sure we reflect on and realize changes need to be made,” Myers said Monday after cleaning out his locker following his third straight year of not making the playoffs. “We also want to take the positives out of it too and bring those into September and make sure everybody is on the same page.”’
‘“I’ve been on the bike a couple times so I wasn’t far off,” Sulzer said. “I went into the glass head-first on a hit and I bounced off a guy so I kind of got whipped around.”’
‘“I mean, we’re not in this game to get high draft picks, at least I’m not, and I know that’s not the goal for the front office.”
‘“It’s coming along quite well,” Myers said as the Sabres cleaned out their lockers and held end-of-season meetings inside the First Niagara Center. “I had a week of hope after it happened. It turned out we found a couple of broken ribs. It wasn’t the best news, but I’m feeling pretty good right now. Another week or two it should good.”‘
”’It’s pretty embarrassing.” Stafford said Monday, upon joining his teammates in cleaning out their lockers. ”And it’s something that you don’t want to have to deal with ever again.”’
‘You can take criticism when it’s warranted. Weber added, “Sometimes it’s fuel, sometimes it’s discouraging, especially during certain stretches of this season, you felt like you didn’t have too much support, but in the end, our fans are always there for us too. Last night, another close to a sellout, they’re still here, they’re still supporting us and the great thing about these people is they’re so passionate about their hockey. You can never be too hard on the fans for being hard on you when they just want you to work hard, just want you to succeed and want the city to succeed so, it’s one of those things that comes with the job and you keep moving forward.”.
‘They’ll probably lose the draft lottery. Previous losers have really taken their lumps over the years. Consider the fates of these teams that were stuck with these awful players….’.
