Sabres stop Capitals to end slide

‘“We’ve had a couple of tough games – not as tough as after that (3-0 loss to New Jersey) – but I thought our response to the way we played and the way we handled that game was real good.”’

Gerbe quickly makes his presence felt with Sabres

‘“Playing with Drew and Derek, it’s a simple game for me in some ways because they’re both good players that they take care of the puck,” said Gerbe, who also assisted on Steve Montador’s first-period goal, giving him three NHL points. “They make simple plays.”’

Sabres expect RW Grier back by weekend

‘Coach Lindy Ruff said after practice Thursday that Grier is expected to return for Buffalo’s game at the New York Rangers on Saturday. Grier will miss his third game on Friday, when Buffalo hosts Chicago.’

Miller has the upper hand for Sabres

‘The Capitals took 12 of the first 13 shots of the final period in an attempt to rally. Miller refused to let them.’

Caps’ Great Eight gets a big zero

‘”I had a couple of chances, especially in the first period,” he said. “I just missed the puck and missed the net. It happens.”‘

He shoots, he scores: Gerbe finds the net

‘”It’s a huge confidence booster. The weight’s off my back,” Gerbe admitted. “I can finally breathe a little bit. I always hold myself to a pretty high standard. This is what I want to do every night … play hard and stay here. It’s great to get the first goal out of the way. Now you know you can score in this league.”‘

Miller, Sabres blank Capitals 3-0

‘Montador opened the scoring with his second of the season 4:06 into the first period. From the right point, Montador’s shot skipped past Theodore, who was screened by Gerbe. Gerbe made it 2-0 with 5:18 left in the second when he banked a shot off Theodore’s pads and in while standing to the left of the post behind the goal line.’

Buffalo 3, Washington 0

‘Nathan Gerbe pumped in his first NHL goal and collected an assist for Buffalo, which snapped a two-game slide and improved to 2-2-0 on a five-game homestand that concludes Friday against Chicago.’

Gerbe Scores 1st of Career, Miller Shines; Sabres Beat Caps 3-0

‘They got off to a good start, scoring just a little over four minutes in. A shot from the point by Steve Montador made its way through traffic and into the net to put the Sabres up early. Nathan Gerbe, just called up from Portland, added his first career NHL goal in the second period to make it 2-0.’
