'Novotny is expected to make his NHL debut in Buffalo's game against Phoenix on Thursday, filling in for rookie Paul Gaustad, who's out with a head injury. Coach Lindy Ruff said Gaustad is feeling better after experiencing headaches this week, but added the center could also miss the Sabres game against Los Angeles on Saturday.'

'Novotny is currently third on the Amerks with 27 points (10+17) in 36 games. He is in his fourth season with Rochester and has played in 188 American Hockey League games. He could make his NHL debut this week. Last season, the native of Pelhrimov, Czech Republic, set career-highs in games played (61), goals (5), assists (20) and points (25). The 22 year old was the Buffalo Sabres’ first-round selection (22nd overall) in the 2001 NHL Entry Draft.'
'"You had to love his intensity for the game. He was an acrobat, the way he played in goal. He had tremendous reflexes and I remember the way he used to grab the crossbar to pull himself up after he had made a big save. He brought a lot of leadership and motivation to the Sabres as well. And he kept young defensemen like myself, Jimmy and Lee Fogolin loose on the ice. He gave us confidence."' (Submitted by: Spun)
