It isn't even Halloween yet and already there is a horror show being featured around the country. The show is so horrific that it is scaring ticket holders as they run away aghast. The Buffalo Sabres are playing a frightful brand of hockey these days.
'"I think it's not the fact that we lost the first two games," Briere said. "It's the way we lost. Tonight there's no excuses for that. It was embarrassing out there."'
'The good news is that fewer fans weren't booing when the final horn sounded, signaling an end that looked all too familiar. After all, there weren't many left.'
'"So I don't know how we could be happier, really. A few goals maybe."'
'"It was fun to watch," DiPietro said of his team's defense. "Most of the time, I was watching."'
'NHL commissioner Gary Bettman, who attended the game as a guest of new Sabres owner Tom Golisano, said he is not closely following Charles Wang's bid to buy the Nets. Bettman added he isn't convinced the presence of an NBA team on Long Island would help expedite plans for a new arena.'
'''It's exciting in here tonight,'' said Golisano. ''We've got a full house, a new projection system, great new music and a lot of excitement. The fans have been absolutely terrific tonight.'''
'“I don’t blame (the fans) at all,” he said. “That wasn’t something they wanted to be a part of. That wasn’t something I wanted to be a part of.”'
'It was a dominating effort from start to finish that saw the balance of power begin to shift when Eric Godard fought Andrew Peters in a 50-punch brawl just two minutes into it.'
