'Boulton, who led Buffalo with 178 penalty minutes last season, signed a two-year deal, which he agreed to before an arbitration hearing earlier in the day. The contract is expected to provide Boulton a raise over the $400,000 he made last season, his third with the team. Tallinder agreed to a one-year, $836,000 contract by accepting the team's qualifying offer. The deal represents a 10 percent raise for the second-year player.'
'In another roster development, Regier indicated dynamic winger Thomas Vanek, whom the Sabres selected with the fifth overall pick in this year's draft, will return to the University of Minnesota for his sophomore season rather than turn pro. "We feel that he could probably play in the National Hockey League this year," Regier said, "but it would be in a limited role, and in all likelihood he would be best served with the continuation of his development at the University of Minnesota."'
