  1. So was anyone able to hear the "Let's Go Buffalo!" chants? Our group was 50 strong, and there were plenty of other Sabre fans around the building joining in the chant. Almost felt bad for the Hawk season ticket holders who probably have to put up with this on a nightly basis, but then again they invested in Hawk season tickets

When the second goal was scored by Awinagainov, you could hear the cheers on TV.

That comment gave me some flashbacks of watching many a Sabres game with a sleeping baby on my shoulder/lap :) . Yes indeed, Gripe Water was a great friend to my wife and I when our kids were newborns.

LOL - I had to not get excited and toss the little guy around.

  2. Some thoughts on the game I enjoyed last night. This was the first MSG feed I've seen, thanks to the NHL ice preview.

Great game by Ryan Miller. I'm pissed that they allowed that weak shot to be called a goal. How many times this year has a shutout been lost in the last minute?

Everytime Awinagainov gets the puck I scream like a schoolgirl. The guy is amazing with his speed and puck handling.

I'm still not used to seeing our uniforms. My wife, not a hockey fan was wondering which team the Sabres were. "Ugh - those are ugly jerseys. What is that big yellow thing on the chest?" Chicago - you got slugged!

Chicago isn't very good. Their goalie played one hell of a game. Seemed like the Sabres were toying with them all game.

Rob Ray on the intermission show is great. I loved the guy as a player and like his commentary on the game.

Does Labatts Beer allow other commercials to run during breaks?

On a personal note, I was able to watch the game with my three week old son, so my wife got three straight hours of sleep. Gentlemen - if you are a new dad, Gripe Water is your friend. A swig of Gripe Water and the little ones sleep without waking up with gas pains every ten minutes.

    Beat the Leafs!

  3. I can't believe I'm saying this, but I disagree and thought the Canes' announcers were actually very balanced in their comments. Of course there was the "home team" slant, but both Forslund and Tracy were extremely complimentary of Buffalo and how the Sabres were taking care of the net in front of Miller while trashing the Canes for allowing the Buffalo forwards to set up and get at the rebounds Grahame was giving up. Forslund in particular also characterized the Buffalo D pairings as "underrated" and "as good as any in the league."

I thought Tracy was very accurate in assessing the play, noting that Buffalo was not "dominating" the game yet they were clearly winning the goaltending battle and, as stated above, working harder in front of both nets.

Believe me, I'm looking for any opportunity to trash these guys because the Canes have become a hated or-gan-I-za-tion to me, but the broadcast last night was not bad at all from a Sabre fan's perspective.

I think I'll pop the Sabres' flags on the car this a.m. to drive around town. :D

    eBall -

They were whining about the hooking call "I didn't see where the refs arm was raised" and then Tracy couldn't understand why we were awarded a penalty shot. Yes they did give props to the Sabres and play in front of the net. However - I found them very dull and not very good calling play-by-play. I felt like I was listening to two guys calling a funeral.

I guess I'm spoiled listening to RJ. I'll stick to live streams on WGR.

  4. They were showing lots of sabres fans on Versus in the third.

But the biggest homer call was in the third period when the "Let's go Buffalo" was

audible on the broadcast. Emmerick said, "Let's go Devils is the Chant".

Yeah! I notice the same thing. Emmerick also pulled that stunt at the ECF game 1 telecast. We Tivoed the game and watched it that night. You could CLEARLY hear lets go Buffalo - but Emmerick said "Canes."

  5. Just finished watching the game on the DVR (Had to go see Flags of Our Fathers tonight!) Good to see them come away with the win despite having a lot of bad bounces. Just a few of my thoughts.

I was really disappointed with Lydman's giveaway...it reminded me of some plays he made early last season.

I thought the call on Roy should have been a trip and a dive. When your guy gets past you, you can't just turn around and swipe at his skates. With that being said, Roy appeared to embelish a little bit.

I am still confused as to how Kalinin was called for interference. If anyone interfered there it was Cole.

Despite giving up 4 goals on 20 shots, I thought Miller had a pretty solid game. The 1st goal was on a terrible giveaway, and the 2nd and 3rd were patened Carolina fluke goals. I didn't like the rebound he gave up on the 4th goal. But with that being said, he made some huge saves early especially on the Staal breakaway.

How was Flags of our Fathers? Details???
