  1. Assessing Adams' off-season performance using analytic game scores:  (for comparison, JSkinner was graded at 0.53, rookie dman RJohnson graded out at 0.38, and fan whipping boy JBryson was also 0.38)

Players Adams resigned:  KOkposo (0.30), ZGirgesons (0.19), TJost (-0.09);   These were among the lowest ranked players on the team.

Players Adams traded for: CClifton (0.18) and EJohnson (-0.23).   Players Adams traded away:  CMittelstadt (0.82  1st on the Sabres) and DKulikov (0.54), who was immensely better that EJ.

Waiver pick-up ERobinson (0.04)  Player traded for BByrum (-0.28) the WORST ranked player on the Sabres.

I'm not sure what would qualify a GM to get fired, but this report card is an abomination.  To be fair, all transactions need time to age to make a fair assessment, but in the short term every decision Adams made last summer and during the season appears to have been the just plain BAD.  Imagine a defense with Kulikov instead of Johnson, and a bottom 6 that included NONE of Jost, Z, Okie, or Robinson, but did include free agents who lingered like TToffoli (0.8) and PSuter (0.77) etc.

Granato wasn't the reason the Sabres sucked.

I can't think of a more useless player on this team. Some people have to be traded and if Adams is hesitant in trading him, this team is in HUGE trouble.

More useless than Krebs = Tyson Jost: the only Sabre with a lower analytics score than Krebs:  -0.33 vs. 0.14.  Even Olofsson had a higher grade than Krebs.  Any comments here demanding that Krebs be traded are have to take into account that Krebs has almost zero trade value.   "Packaging Krebs" for a trade makes me laugh out loud. The only smart play here is to let the new coach have at him in training camp and early in the season (assuming he makes the team).  Maybe he's salvageable, but otherwise he gets waived.  Then we have to hope Tuch + Östlund to salvage something from the Eichel trade fiasco.

  3. So much talk this off season about being a better team at home.  What a joke that was!  Last night they were supposed to really show up to demonstrate their respect and feelings for Okie.  Quite the statement!  These guys are complacent, no heart and no pride.  Time to start benching players that are mailing it in, or are just horrible.  Someone needs to post the Boston newspaper headlines in that locker room:  "Bruins Score Early in Another Thrashing of Sabres";  "Bruins Batter Sabres"; "Bruins Rout Sabres".

I think I'm done with Donnie, too much talk and no results.  How many times will hear excuses about "not feeling it" or "not finding our game"?  Isn't that on the coach?  Why is Tage playing on the PK blocking shots during a 4-0 rout?

Adams clearly "lost the offseason".  Bringing back Okie, Z, and Jost did nothing to improve this team.  Clifton wasn't good enough to play playoff games in Boston, why would we sign him?  We need some new players.  It's time to use the resources in the pipeline to bring in some tough and smart players.  How about bringing Zadorov back to start?  Then find someone who can consistently win faceoffs and play a 200' game.  Send Levi to Rochester and free up his roster spot, he hasn't earned the right to keep playing.  Keeping 3 goalies is ridiculous and only shows they don't know what they're doing.

    Good post.

Should things continue the way they have these past 2 games, yes, Adams should be feeling heat.  (He should anytime they're short of what expectations are, but sample size is a thing.)  Winnipeg is another team like Buffalo with a better road record than home record.  The Blackhawks are still bad, but the Sabres had better not overlook anyone right now.  Get those 2 W's and a split with the Caps and Pens and they've officially come away with the 6 points they need ALL season per 5 games to get to the dance.

Don't like their chances minus both Thompson and Tuch, but it's Mittelstadt's and Cozens' opportunities to step up.  They both consider themselves to be leaders (and the folks around here agree w/ Dylan); so they need to treat this as an opportunity.  Have been fine with keeping Kulich in Ra-cha-cha, but they need help in the top 6 w/ 1/2 of it out of the lineup and the 1st kid asked to be a replacement also out.  The coaching staff MIGHT have faith that streaky Olofsson will go on one given time on whatever is the 2nd line & top PP w/ all that firepower out, but would hope they don't.

Will be interesting to see if there's any fire to the Hannifin rumblings we heard this weekend.  He would be a huge addition to the back end and would allow them to come up w/ pairings that make sense throughout all 3 pairs.

I think I'd rather have Zadorov come back than Hannifin.  We need some toughness in the lineup.

I like him a lot but When you have so many Good. Prospects Coming Up from The. Pipeline It's easier to trade a player like him.

I would trade him for a very good goalie or defenseman

They're not going to trade 37 unless he holds them up for more $$ than they can justify.  That seems unlikely given his personality and attachment to his teammates and coach.

The problem here is Dahlin was greedy and he's overpaid by $1.5M to $2M.  26 isn't playing like a top 5 in the league Dman.  He's invisible many games, and those high flip lob outs are just ugly turnovers.  Where is there improvement since last year?  Seems like he has plateaued or even regressed.

  6. I was so optimistic going in, but this is brutal in every way: losing AGAIN at home, bad coaching by starting Levi 4X in a row, sloppy play: 12-3 on giveaways, can't win faceoffs, players  won't shoot . . .  Yes it's the same old $h%%.  Soooo disappointing. This is not a winning team.  Granato or Oki better rip these guys a new one before the season goes totally down the toilet.  Glad I only bought tickets to 1 game so far.

  7. Adams worst trade by far, it was clear from the start Bjork wasn't going to add any value.  Even his Rochester stats were really lame.  Kisakov is another small, skinny winger, so not expecting much from him either.  Let's hope Adams drafts nothing but big wingers and big Dmen this year, but I doubt it.

(Adams gave Taylor Hall way too much leverage on thst contract.  Hope Hall misses the entire playoffs.)

The first question is what do the Amerks need?  Who is under contract for next season.

At forward (6)  - Biro, Kozak, Cederqvist, Kulich, Rosen, and Kisakov are with the Amerks now and under contract for next season.  Odds are that all will return to the Amerks next season.  Maybe Kulich makes a run at an NHL roster spot.  Maybe.

On Defense - Prow is signed to an AHL deal for next season.

    In Goal - no one

That's a pretty clean slate to build from.  Bloom and Nadeau should be in Rochester next season.  Östlund is also likely, bringing the signed forwards to 9.  Malone, Rousek and maybe Weissbach return, although I think Rousek will get a look with the Sabres at some point this season.

In goal - I think they like Subban and he seems happy here.  I can easily see him being retained.

On Defense  it's anyone's guess what he does.  We have no prospects to speak of unless Johnson signs and he might compete for a slot in Buffalo.  I think they like Clague, but he too maybe in Buffalo next year.  Odds favor KA looking for more AAAA guys like Clague who are still considered developmental players by the AHL, but who have some NHL experience.  I honestly hope he moves a forward to get a legit D prospect or two into the pipeline.

Not sure why KA left us so thin on D.  I hope he is looking hard for a D via trade as we have too many forwards given 8 or 9 Sabres F spots are already locked up.  Kulich is going to push hard for a spot in Buffalo.  He looks like a steal at #24 and is very mature for his age. Östlund is staying in Sweden another year per prior comments and his underwhelming performance at World Juniors.

  9. Some incredibly dumb comments here.  "KA put all his eggs in 1 basket?"  There are 3 other recently drafted goalies from 2nd and 3rd rounds plus Comrie.  That's 5 baskets for anyone who can count.

"KA bet his entire rebuild on waiting for Levi."  Really? Dahlin, Power, Samuelsson, Cozens, Quinn, Peterka, Krebs, Tuch, Thomson plus 5 more 1st rounders in the pipeline are all just incidental to the rebuild and are waiting for Levi?  Get a grip!

  10. Let's be a little more creative.  You send Comrie to Rochester for conditioning, meanwhile see if UPL can sustain this recent level of play.  When Comrie is ready, he comes back up.  If UPL still playing well, Anderson is mysteriously injured and goes on IR for 2-3 weeks of FL vacation with his family while UPL and Comrie battle it out.  If Comrie wins. UPL goes back to Rochester.  If UPL wins, you trade Comrie to playoff team.  Anderson comes back rested and stays because he deserves it and the team loves him.

  11. Your link isn't functional   We clearly need some RHD.  We also might have an inside track on this guy:

Taylor Ward, University of Nebraska Omaha

Ward (6-2, 207) has been a point producer throughout his college career. The senior wing has scored 21 points (12 goals, nine assists) in 14 games this season. Nine of his 12 goals have come on the power play. He is tied with Frank for the most goals in the NCAA.  Ward's father, Dixon Ward, played 537 NHL games for six teams.
