  1. Sabres in existence for 53 years.

Ruff has coached 15 of those years so far. I remember this board calling into question things like dump and chase and needing a change.

He looked tired to me in the presser to coach another x number.  There was a question where he was asked how much longer he wants to coach and he sort of laughed it off.  I really want this to work but I don’t think it will.  Comparisons to 2006 seem a little stretched and just more nostalgia/talk of years gone by. Hope I’m wrong.  Lindy raising a cup for Buffalo would be awesome.

I understand everyone who thinks rehiring Ruff is a cop-out or in my words: the lowest hanging fruit to bringing back the glory days.

But it very well could be worse. It couldve been a Ralph Krueger. It couldve been Matt Ellis or Seth Appert. Whenever you think something is bad, just think of how it couldve been worse. And be thankful we didn't go with the worse option. Ruff at least brings some respectability to the role. Players will take him seriously & Ruff will hold them accountable.

I would at least, not expect us to take a step back next year. We should at least be even or better than this year. Im really trying to find the positive in this lol.

    lol!  The bar has shifted!

  3. Lindy was my favorite Sabre growing up in WNY and was a great coach who I think did (and still does) want to deliver a Cup to Buffalo.  Best memory of him was sending out Peters and others to deal with the Sens and chewing out Murray.  If memory serves, I think several of us may have chipped in to help fund the fine that the NHL imposed on him.  And I also remember his daughter’s brain tumor surgery and how a lot of us rallied around him and his family.

lots of memories and love for Lindy.  But this hire strikes me as a desperation move similar to when Wilson brought Marv Levy back (albeit to the front office).   I really really really hope I’m wrong and that I eat crow when they win it all with Lindy at the helm.

Y'all really in here trashing Hodgson? Dude had a rare medical condition.

Does that mean you are ok giving part of the Sabres cap (almost $900k per year for the next 3 years) to him when his last season with us was in 2015?

    I don’t like Ehrhoff’s buyout either.  https://www.capfriendly.com/players/christian-ehrhoff
So between the two of them we have almost $2m in dead cap space.  Good for you if you don’t find that kind of hard to take/regretful.

  5. Karma is so subjective.  Toronto was literally interviewing Boucher and that abruptly kicked his @$$ out the door to nab Babs and cleaned house top to bottom (I do not know if there were golden parachutes there either like TN got).  So they are now more deserving of Babs with "good Karma?"  Toronto also stopped playing after Jan to get in on the McDavid sweeps.  Eye of the beholder.

As for Edmonton, show me how Edmonton and its years of ineptitude and pushing to the bottom to nab more and more first rounders is deserving of good Karma.

I'm just as jaded as the next guy, but let's keep it real, here please.

  6. Revisiting the Miller/Ott trade to St. Louis, I guess the overall return of that trade is:

    Miller and Ott for:

2015 1st Round from St. Louis (could be owned by Winnipeg if higher than Islander's 2015 1st Round that Sabres also own)

2016 3rd Round from Islanders (via Halak trade to Caps for Neuvirth via Neuvirth trade to Islanders)

2016 3rd Round from St. Louis (I think this is still owned by the Sabres)

2017 2nd Round from Wild (via Stewart trade to Wild)

    William Carrier (2nd Round prospect)

Chad Johnson (meh-- via Halak trade to Caps for Neuvirth via Neuvirth trade to Islanders)

Jack Nevins (meh-- via Stewart trade to Wild)

[plus giving up Stewart, who is a UFA, helps the race to the bottom for the Shart]

  7. I'm complaining Murray held out too long while other potential landing spots for Stewart made other deals. At deadline he had to settle for a pick three drafts from now. You are obviously satisfied with this mediocrity.

I never post, only read, but THIS is some funny stuff.  Mediocrity?  LOL.  Personally, I'm not too concerned about losing any UFAs on a team that is DFL in exchange for a 2nd three drafts from now.  I am not a TM apologist, but I guess I have a different perspective of Stewart's worth on the worst team in Sabres franchise history.  Other GMs apparently agree.  And BTW, I don't think Darcy would have traded Stewart at all if he was still here.

  8. We need to start a "Bring Ott Home" campaign. Get the fans to tamper a bit.

Agreed. We need to twitter the hell out of him to get him to come back.

I guess I'll root for the Blues in the playoffs this year. Tank is on! We are going to be horrible down the stretch. Someone needs to periodically check on Nolan over the next few months because he is going to be one un-happy camper.

  9. Great game- Kessel was amazing.

Miller was great too. Don't need a shutout to have a great game and there is not much else you can ask of him. He bailed the boys out when they were sleep walking through large parts of this game.

Best play was when Wheeler basically put on a clinic, fired to McDonagh, who then finished for the 4th USA goal. Fun to watch.

    Looking forward to our bye.
