  1. It has been said Antipin can play the right side. Our other RHD Borgen (but he hasn't signed) Nelson, Fedun, Fitzgerald, and I think Tennyson.

Not that this is what the thread is about...but...I always wonder if Guhle is good enough to make the roster...he's another lefty...who comes out of the lineup?

  2. Ill work on it with other locals... Good Bills Bar in New Rochelle and Stamford on train lines... Citifield accesible by train.... places to stay in westchester or ct hotels, maybe a group rate...

Play Sabres games there and decent wings... open to suggestions also gotta go to places in citi.

Hey North Buffalo...I'd be willing to help, I live in Somers.  Think I may have met you once in the proshop at Brewster Ice Rink.

  3. They usually use the term oscar worthy to pump up their movies but before I see it was there anyone or anything oscar worthy about this ? The trailer looked good so I'll see it regardless but just thought I'd ask.

The dialogue between the two brothers and the two Texas Rangers was fantastic...very well written and very funny (even though it's not a comedy).

  4. This is a very interesting lineup, but why did you take Okposo and Moulson out of their natural positions? Also I don't think CDB will play Ennis with Jack and Sam. GMTM and CDB have been pretty clear that they want a more physical presence on that line.

    How about this?

    Kane ROR Reinhart

    Ennis Jack Okposo

    Moulson Girgensons Bailey

    Foligno Larsson Gionta

I think veterans like Moulson and Okposo can play any wing. I think that Ennis with Eichel and Reinhart, while not physical, is a very fast line. I really like Kane on a third line, and with Girgenson and Bailey, I see a lot of potential.

  5. Anyone know what's up with Legwand? Did he retire? I'd still like him as forward #13-14 on a 1-year contract.

Here's my forward lineup (sans Vesey) to start the 2016-17 season:

    Kane - O'Reilly - Okposo

    Ennis - Eichel - Reinhart

    Foligno - Larsson - Gionta

    Deslauriers - Girgensons - Moulson

With Vesey: I'd replace Ennis with him and then switch out Deslauriers for Ennis to create a very intriguing "redemption" energy line.

Fasching, Bailey, Baptiste, Carrier, and Nylander should all get call-ups during the season.

I think Vesey signs with Boston.  Opening Night looks like this...

Okposo - O'Reilly - Moulson (they're gonna give Moulson a shot with his buddy Kyle to see if he can get things turned around)

    Ennis - Eichel - Reinhart

    Kane - Girgensons - Bailey

    Foligno - Larsson - Gionta

I think we have 3 scoring lines, and our best checking line from last year to be our 4th line.  If Moulson can regain some of his form, i would really like those lines.

  6. Also, I want to point out that you should keep track of how long it takes you to get to failure. For example, let's say your chest pressing 150lbs....if you reach failure in 55-60 seconds, move up in weight next time you lift. If you reach failure at 40 seconds, record it, and next time try to "beat" 40 seconds (there should be a minimum of 48-72 hours between lifts for the muscles to repair). If you increase your time, you got stronger.

When starting out, finding the right weight can take a few lifts...if you use a weight and you don't come to failure by 2 minutes...stop...the weight was too light...next time go up in weight.

When increasing weight (after you get to the 60 second barrier), it's important not to go up too much weight. I only increase 5 pounds for upper body lifts and maybe 10 for legs. When I started doing leg press last year, I started at 250...last week I was at 510 and have been going up 10 pounds every week. The friend who told me about slow burn, leg presses over 1000 pounds...he is not a big muscle head, and takes no supplements or steroids...and only lifts 3 times a month. This really works.

  7. Trying to figure out my workout/exercise schedule for the summer is taking some work. My last Sunday night hockey game is April 10th and then I'm free to switch gears from hockey-centric workouts. Plus the days getting longer and the weather getting nicer means I want to get some of my evenings back to be social. Hoping to work in one bike ride on a weekend morning and fishing the other morning. I've been doing so good with weight training during the weeks but I know I won't be able to keep dragging myself to the gym for 2-3 hours every night when the sun is shining and the air is warm. Probably going to cut back weight training to one night a week. Might have to start running again to get my bang for my buck from an hour block of workout time the other nights. Stupid summer making it hard to spend all of my free time indoors working out.

Pretty interesting reading what everyone does to keep in/or try to keep in shape.  I read a lot of the posts on here, but rarely post myself...but I wanted to share some stuff I recently stumbled across.  I have a little background in working out.  I was a two sport athlete in college (hockey and lacrosse) and have worked out in many different ways over the years.  Been weight training since high school (get back to that in a minute), play beer league hockey twice a week year round,  and bike three times a week.  I am a physical education teacher and coach high school lacrosse and hockey, and have coached hockey at the junior level.  My three kids (triplets) all play sports in college and work out all the time...and we talk about this all the time (best ways to work out).

All that said, I recently found a great way to lift weights (and i've done everything). It's called "slow burn" or sometimes "serious strength".  I've been doing it the past year and a half, and the results are really awesome.  I do it twice a week, but some others i know only do it once per week and are fine.  It only takes about 20 minutes.  I use it with the athletes I coach,  they love it, and have had great results.

Basically, you can do any exercise you want...machines are better than free weights...you just do super slow repetitions.  10 seconds up/10 seconds down...until failure...so, just one set.  Then go to another body part.  If you can get to 60 seconds or so for the exercise, next time go up in weight.  I use the stop watch on my cell phone to keep track.  8 exercises and i'm done...20 minutes...it really works. Getting to muscular failure is the key.

You can research it, there's info out there.  The super slow reps make it hard to get injured as well.  Hope the info was helpful.

  8. Was back in the Spring of '94. Was at a local dive in Rye, NY (Rangers used to practice there) celebrating a beer league hockey championship with my teammates. It's a Friday night and the place is packed. We're all having a great time, when all of the sudden a wedding party comes in. It's odd because this isn't the place a you would normally see a wedding party. Anyway, one of the guys in the wedding party looks familiar to me...it looks like John Tucker who used to play for the Sabres in the late '80's. No one I'm with is a Sabres fan, so they're not sure...so we finally go up to him and ask if he he's John Tucker...sure enough, he is. I ask what he's doing there and he says it's ex-Sabre Paul Cyr's wedding (he had recently played for the Rangers, met a local gal, and just got married). So we hung out with Tucker the rest of the night. Two of my teammates and I were talking hockey with him and I let him know I was a big Sabres fan and told him my two buddies were huge Bruin's fans (they were both from Boston)...to which Tucker replies "Boston sucks!" Priceless. On a final note, they carried Paul Cyr out of the bar that evening.

  9. Her father. We're still in that stage of shock since we just found out monday. None of us have any clue where to go with all the planning now. Do you postpone, do you move it up, do you not change a thing? I don't think there is a right answer here, but the whole thing is just going to be very difficult with that cloud hovering over us.

And in terms of this board, I have no clue what is going on in the NHL. I love the game, but at this point I don't have the time or the energy to keep up with whatever the "let's argue about this" topic of the day is.

So sorry. My thoughts and prayers to you and your family.
