  1. I went to nhl.com looking for a definitive explanation of the video replay system. Imagine this -- I found very little, just a sketchy section in the rule book. So many questions, but maybe the biggest one is, what standard is used to review goals? Like the NFL, does there have to be incontrovertible visual evidence to overturn the call on the ice, or does the video official make the call as if he is watching the play live and he is the ref? It seems to be the latter. Remember the goal in Pittsburgh, the spectacular glove save by Biron, where the ref said no goal, and despite no clear visual evidence to the contrary, the replay official awarded a goal.

Rick and Jim have said that it has to be conclusive beyond a doubt several times.

  2. Currently, Miller is 5th in GAA and 4th in SV%. Pretty impressive stats for one's rookie season. If this wasn't the year of Ovechkin and Crosby, and Miller wasn't injured, wouldn't he be in the running for the Calder Trophy?

If he wasn't injured he would have been at least a finalist. If he keeps playing this well and gets to 40-50 games, he might still be a finalist.

However, it will probably be Crosby, Ovechkin, and Phaneuf

  3. I know he had his problem legally this past year, but Tallinder is clearly much better than Fitzpatrick. Should we be fortunate enought to get a top 4 D, I could see Tallinder and Campbell fighting for a spot.

I think Tallinder is quickly and quietly becoming that top 4 D-man we were previously missing.

I don't see a need to displace any of the current 6 (now that Kalinin is back) unless it is for one of the top 20 D-men in the league.

  4. From the ESPN recap:

I tried to find the part where they said "The Sabres are missing several key players because of injuries, including two-thirds of their top line (Danny Briere and JP Dumont) and defenseman Dmitri Kalinin," but I couldn't find it anywhere.

    Typical.

    So true.

If the Flyers or Rangers were doing what the Sabres are, ESPN would be on them like DeLuca on Ted Nolan.

  5. Grier has 9 points and is a -9. All this for $1.3 million?

Last night he was horrible and was benched.

He has a good shift here and there. But those are too few and too far between. I couldn't find a complete stat sheet for the year. But I would guess he has more turnovers then hits this season.

Grier is big, slow and not very effective. Most of the rallies the Pens could muster happened with Grier on the ice. WHich is why he was benched.

As far as the other two?

Fitzpatrick should be in the ROC. He is weak along the boards and makes poor decisions. Like shhoting the puck into the defenders legs instead of dumping into the corner with less then two minutes to play. This resulted in a Pens rush and the Sabres had trouble clearing after that.

    Peters. Compeltely useless.

Grier was injured Friday night and played hurt the rest of the game. He was still injured Saturday and obviously couldn't play through it. He wasn't benched.

Fitzpatrick is trash (PUT JILLSON OR JANIK IN) and Peters blows, but Grier is an important grinder that will be a huge asset in the playoffs.

  6. this game reminds me way to much of the bills game. up 3 scores at the end of the 1st period and i am all excited about an easy win. hopefully this wont end the same way the other game did...

You may not be allowed to post here if this continues this way.

  7. I feel bad for the crowd.

Seems like some people came out for the game. Tough night.

Yeah, not many blue seats for you to talk to tonight.

Too bad the Sabres decided not to show up for the biggest non-Leafs crowd of the season.
