It's a proud moment for Kyle Okposo to earn the letter as Sabres captain

'"It's just a tremendous honor and I couldn't be more proud," Okposo said after practice in LECOM Harborcenter. "I'm just gonna continue to be myself. If you start to act a different way, or do things differently, the guys see through that in a heartbeat. You can't fool anybody. So authenticity is definitely number one on my list."' … [Read more...] about It’s a proud moment for Kyle Okposo to earn the letter as Sabres captain

Sabres Notebook: The roster is set as Pilut and Luukkonen head to Rochester

'Both Luukkonen and Pilut had good showings in training camp but were simply victims of numbers. Pilut didn't score in three games but tied Dylan Cozens for the team lead in assists with three while Luukkonen posted a 2.00 goals-against average and .933 save percentage in his two starts, stopping 56 of 60 shots.' … [Read more...] about Sabres Notebook: The roster is set as Pilut and Luukkonen head to Rochester

Sabres' preseason clarified final roster, revealed notable breakout candidate

'Cozens had the remarkable training camp and preseason the Sabres expected of him. He attacked the middle of the ice, won puck battles and, most important, made his linemates better. This is a continuation of what we saw in the second half of last season. Though Cozens totaled only two goals after the All-Star break, he consistently generated scoring chances. At the IIHF World … [Read more...] about Sabres’ preseason clarified final roster, revealed notable breakout candidate

Observations: Eric Comrie receives little help in Sabres' preseason finale

'It was that kind of night for Comrie and his teammates. That the game didn’t count against the standings was the only solace the Sabres could take from their exhibition finale. The Penguins raced out to a 3-0 lead at the first intermission after three notable miscues by Buffalo in its defensive zone and added four consecutive goals over the final 30 minutes of the game.' … [Read more...] about Observations: Eric Comrie receives little help in Sabres’ preseason finale

Dave Dryden, former Sabres goalie and brother of Hall of Famer, dies at 81

'Acquired in a cash transaction with the Pittsburgh Penguins on Oct. 9, 1970, Dryden was a part of the first four seasons in Sabres history, serving behind Joe Daley and Roger Crozier before playing 53 games as Buffalo's starting goalie in 1973-74. He went 43-45-20 while playing 120 games for the Sabres, posting an NHL career-high 23 wins for Buffalo in '73-74. Anders Bjork wants to 'show that fire' in final days of Sabres training camp

'This is a critical training camp for Bjork. He knows he’s been surpassed on the depth chart since arriving from Boston in the trade that sent Taylor Hall to the Bruins at the deadline in 2021. Jack Quinn and JJ Peterka are the latest prospects to graduate to Buffalo and appear to be locked into roster spots entering the final preseason game Friday night in Pittsburgh.' … [Read more...] about Anders Bjork wants to ‘show that fire’ in final days of Sabres training camp

JJ Peterka's learning curve looks like it will go up and down in NHL with Sabres

'The Sabres are still pondering whether to carry 13 or 14 forwards and Peterka doesn't seem to be sitting on the roster bubble. It appears that veterans Anders Bjork and Riley Sheahan are in that predicament.' … [Read more...] about JJ Peterka’s learning curve looks like it will go up and down in NHL with Sabres

Observations: Tage Thompson's old-school first period leads Sabres past Canes

'Thompson didn't hesitate to determine whether the hit on Hinostroza was clean. He saw his teammate briefly laid out on the ice and sprang into action by raining a series of blows on Chatfield, who has played 34 games in the NHL, but has spent most of the last four years in the AHL.' … [Read more...] about Observations: Tage Thompson’s old-school first period leads Sabres past Canes

Sabres forge a real look in practice, will take lineup through final two exhibitions

'Granato said it was super from an organizational standpoint to have so many prospects and extra coaches around practice, as the staffs from Rochester and Cincinnati were also involved. But it's also closing in on time to get ready for the NHL season and Monday represented a new stage of camp.' … [Read more...] about Sabres forge a real look in practice, will take lineup through final two exhibitions

Observations: Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen's strong camp continues in Sabres win

'Luukkonen was the Sabres’ best player and kept the score at 0-0 until their lineup, which featured a blend of NHL regulars and soon-to-be Amerks, found a rhythm in the second period. Victor Olofsson scored a power-play goal, Tage Thompson added to the lead with a snapshot from the right circle and Jack Quinn secured a 3-1 preseason record for Buffalo with his empty-netter.' … [Read more...] about Observations: Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen’s strong camp continues in Sabres win

Mike Harrington: It's time for the nitty-gritty of Sabres training camp

'The Sabres are 3-1 in the preseason and have had no issues with goaltending thus far. Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen has been excellent in both of his starts, and was easily the best player on the ice Saturday. The team giving up just nine goals in four games, no matter how weak opposing rosters have been built, is still a good sign.' … [Read more...] about Mike Harrington: It’s time for the nitty-gritty of Sabres training camp

Inside the NHL: Game behind the game is hit for Sabres mates Rasmus Dahlin and Casey Mittelstadt

'The machine passes a sequence of 16 pucks in short order and electronically calculates a score using variables of a player's shot after they receive the passes. Players can keep track of their own scores and follow their teammates' progress on a phone app, and that's where the one-upsmanship comes in.' … [Read more...] about Inside the NHL: Game behind the game is hit for Sabres mates Rasmus Dahlin and Casey Mittelstadt
