'A Sabres victory will have a threefold effect on the NHL standings. A win would: A) clinch the Northeast Division, giving the Sabres their first division title since 1996-97; B) clinch the Eastern Conference, giving the Sabres their first regular-season conference crown since 1979-80; and C) put the Sabres in first place in the race for the Presidents’ Trophy, awarded to the team with the most points. The Detroit Red Wings lead the Sabres, 107-106.'

Connolly, Afinogenov skate in practice
'Coach Lindy Ruff said Connolly would be used in a limited role should he come back. “I don’t think we’re going to get him in good enough shape to play him in a regular line status,” Ruff said. “He may be able to get nine, 10 minutes and the special teams type of time. And that might be effective enough. If that area helps our team, we’d love to utilize him in that sense.”'
End in sight
'"I'm really just taking it day-by-day trying to do as much as I can each day without overdoing it," said an upbeat Connolly.'
