The Sabres Report - Nov 1, 2006

Connolly On Long-term Injured Reserve

'With Henrik Tallinder out for 1-2 months, the Sabres needed to clear salary cap room to call up a replacement. They did that by placing concussed center Tim Connolly on long-term injured reserve, which clears up nearly $2 million in cap room, leaving Buffalo $2.805 million under the cap.' … [Read more...] about Connolly On Long-term Injured Reserve

Buffalo takes focus off streak

'For Paetsch, playing Saturday was a nice change to watching the games from the bench, though he skated in warmups for every previous game. "It sucks the way it happened because Henrik is one of the best defencemen out there," said Paetsch, who will likely be a regular starter now that Tallinder is out with a broken arm. "To go in under that situation is … [Read more...] about Buffalo takes focus off streak

The feeling's mutual

'Goaltender Ryan Miller talked about the change since the team's springtime run to the Eastern Conference Final. He says that he is recognized around town because he's the only "skinny guy with long hair" on the team and easy to spot. But self-effacing commentary aside, Miller was very thoughtful and insightful when commenting on the buzz in the community. He welcomes all of … [Read more...] about The feeling’s mutual

Sabres' magic falls a bit short

'"Hey, we got 21 of a possible 22 points in October," stressed Jason Pominville, who had one of Sabres' four come-from-behind goals and two assists. That's a bit like George W. Bush's victory speech a few months into the Iraq war.' … [Read more...] about Sabres' magic falls a bit short

Lack of defensive depth puts Sabres on thin ice

'But if the Sabres suffer another injury on defense, they have only three rookies to choose from in Rochester (Mike Funk, Mike Card and injured Andrej Sekera). Amerks captain Brandon Smith is their property, but they have never considered him to be a player on their NHL roster. "Ideally you'd like 12 defensemen who could all play in the NHL," general manager Darcy Regier … [Read more...] about Lack of defensive depth puts Sabres on thin ice

'"Scotty Arniel, the coach in Manitoba, had him in Buffalo the last few years and he told us Taylor could go anywhere from being on the top line to the fourth line," Vigneault explained. Scotty told us he had great size but that he didn't always use it."' … [Read more...] about The answer to Anson
