This Day in Sabres History :: June 1

Recommended Posts

June 1, 1999

The day after the Sabres earn a berth in the finals with a win over the Maple Leafs, fans everywhere are all a-titter about the team's first appearance in the finals since 1975. But they won't know an opponent until the Western Conference final between Dallas and Colorado is decided in a few days.

(Anyone remember the date of the great ticket fiasco of 1999? I recall there was a fist fight and a barricade thrown against a window at Marine Midland Arena when tickets sold out quickly.)

Can we skip "This day in history" on "no goal" day? ;)

Meanwhile on this day in Sabres history... The injury depleted team prepares to play the Carolina Hurricanes in game 7 of the Eastern Conference Finals... Winner will take home the Prince of Wales Trophy and represent the east for the Stanley Cup against Edmonton, winner in the west.

Game 7 will be held in Raleigh, North Carolina where tickets to the game can still be bought, sellout it looks not. Displaced and relocated western New Yorkers and southern Ontarians living in North Carolina are urged to attend the game and cheer on the home town boys!

Report has it that the arrogant 'Canes and their fans are holding out to buy Stanely Cup Finals tickets, putting champagne on ice, and trash talking their "barbarian neighbors" to the north.
