  1. 1. Do the Sabres need someone to stand up to the heavy weights in the league?

    • No. That’s from a bygone era.

What is a single light fighter?  Did I miss a reference?

Let's trade Dahlin for some 3rd pair defender who punches ppl. I'd guess about 1/4 of this board still doesn't want him as captain. Trade him, I hear Simon Edvinsson is available.

Olivier doesn’t see Metsa the small, one-man fighter as a threat, or he’d have a tighter defense.

Not that it mattered because the Sabres 5-on-3 is filthy. In the original sense of the word.

Well that’s silly. No one’s saying that. Do you deny the importance of some semblance of deterrence?  We’ve got a lineup of sitting ducks, IMO.

Getting a guy that can fight is going to do nothing. Be better at the power play and they won't want to fight you as much.

I’d think long and hard if they offered one of the dmen prospects in Rochester

Agree to disagree? It’s still a part of the game whether you want it to be or not. I want tough men who are willing and able to defend themselves and their teammates up and down the lineup.

I just want to make the playoffs and being better at the power play is the key to doing it.

We’ve had some in the past and they’re still playing elsewhere in the league (Marcus, Nick D.).  Going forward, we don’t have anybody in Buffalo or Rochester who is in the same class as some of the heavies like Olivier.  Maybe young Bedkowski could be such a guy in the future, but I don’t know if his actual hockey skills will be good enough to justify a roster spot with the big club.

Yea I bet if Buffalo potted 2 goals after that the talk in Columbus would be how stupid that was but nope, we didn't fix ***** on the pp.

Sure, if the enforcer can play hockey, otherwise not.

Lawson Crouse might hit the market next summer. A rising cap and a demand for toughness will give him a nice payday. And I wouldn't mind having him on a third line.

One that can play 10-12min a night?  Yeah, but there just aren’t enough of them for each team to have one.

On the contrary, they have been there to be had. We just aren’t pursuing them.

Tanner Jeannot signed with Boston at 5 yrs $17 M ($3.4m/yr) a year ago

The Bruins traded for Kastelic 2 yrs ago (part of a bigger deal but could have been had) and signed him to a 3 yr $4.7m deal ($1.55m/yr!)

(not that the Bruins have a great overall team — though not sure this year we are better— but no one is messing with them with Zadarov, Kastelic, and Jeannot)

Olivier was traded from Nashville to Columbus for a 4th round pick and last year signed a 6 yr $18 m deal ($3m/yr)

Foligno- once on the Sabres—signed a 4 yr $16m deal in 2023.

When are we going to have a GM who doesn’t ignore the elephant in the room and get a true (forward) enforcer? Who can play decent hockey? I’d have much rather landed one of those guys and bypass one of the other deals we have made. And we will probably lose Quinn.
