  1. 1. Do the Sabres need someone to stand up to the heavy weights in the league?

    • No. That’s from a bygone era.

Yeh Sabres looked in preseason mode, even Dahlin looked passive... Mal line barely on the ice... switch Krebs with Kulich and have a straight checking line... Geersten may be a firestarted but he Sabres season has started... not old man beer league  anymore...

Day-drinking is so underrated. 😆

Based on what I saw in the preseason, I was not confident that the Sabres were ready for the season and I'm not surprised with the result last night.  Moreover, two teams that have always given the Sabres trouble are Pittsburgh and Columbus.  Other than that one game a few years ago where Tage had 5 goals against the Blue Jackets, it seems like they have the Sabres' number.  I'm not going to go into a deep depression or panic mode, as there are 83 games left and plenty of time to right the ship, but I will allow myself a mild disappointment before moving on and looking forward to a better result on Saturday night at home against Chicago.

A mild improvement on the power play would have probably been enough last night.

You know what ***** it. Please bring of Geersten and give him 12min a night for the ENTIRE SEASON. I just need it at this point because nothing other than the total and abject failure of bringing in a "heavyweight" will make you people understand that toughness is not 1 mofo taking swings so Metsa doesn't have to but a team that just simply DOES NOT PUT UP WITH OTHERS *****. We actually saw that last night, Metsa was the closest and addressed it. Everyone else got into it. That is what toughness is, a team attitude. But nope, bring in a heavy weight, please. For the love of the hockey gods, bring that guy in so I can watch him get caved in on xGF every night and fight 8 times a season. Please, because nothing short of that will make this place understand that the issue at the end of the day was not toughness last night, it was a ***** pp and a terrible goaltending performance.

Hallelujah, holy *****, where's the tylenol.

No one other than you has advocated for Geertsen this season. He's not even good at AHL hockey or much of an enforcer. If Metsa was seriously injured last night, I'm guessing the narrative would be different. I'd like to have someone on the team that can win a fight. I'm not sure you even get that with Geertsen.

Jarmo traded Rosen and a 2nd in 2027 for such a player in Logan Stanley.  We then determined we didn't need him.

He also stood around and watched his smaller less tough teammates get into it without so much as a care.

I wonder how many more goals we would have scored if Metsa was bigger and won the fight against Olivier?

Similarly, I wonder how many more goals UPL would have saved?

Teams can win fights and games. The Sabres only ever do one of those things.  Most of you guys don't care if the players on our team who do score goals, get assaulted by opponents.  I do.

Map out a hypothetical plan to make it happen. Identify your trade targets, identify the assets you are willing to trade. See if you can ballpark a deal that is realistic. Make the conversation pragmatic rather than just a b&tch-fest.

Trouba stepped in last night after Brady T roughed up Celebrini.   Also he’s the type described above  who’d dish out the cheap garbage if you want to play that game.   That’s the type I was hoping Jarmo would have added.

Is this true? What are the examples of this?  Who were these smaller less tough teammates who got roughed up on Stanley's watch?

Need?  No.

Want. Yes (but only if they are skilled enought to not have a drop-off in play from what they have on the 4th line now.

So, with all the contracts they have signed the young guys to, and Skinner's big cap hit coming off the books next year, they should have pretty decent amount of cap space going into next offseason.  I would like to see them use that to pay an extra $million or maybe even $2m per year for a guy...if there IS anyone, that could be considered a heavyweight AND a decent enough player also.

Where did I say I want to bring Stanley back?

You didn’t. You just said something not in a very specific way so you must be wrong about something and require correction. 😂

I understand @LGR4GM‘S comment though. At the deadline last year we gave up Rosen, a 2nd, 3rd, 4th, and 6th for Stanley, Schenn, and Carrick. There really can’t be any conclusion other than we thought we needed to get tougher. We then let Stanley and Schenn walk and we traded Tuch, Greenway, and Kesselring, 3 big guys who at various times have been willing if not eager combatants, and really only added Crevier as a guy who replaces any of that. I’m not sure if we need to add toughness, but last April Jarmo and/or Ruff sure thought we did. I hope we aren’t just planning to trade Mrtka or Kleber and 1/2 a draft class in April to add some toughness.

I think I can agree that the days of a Nic Delaurius riding that 4th line wing spot are gone for the most part.

I mean you can see that even he didnt play in the playoffs. But they do tend to still play in the regular season.

I think we need a forward like an Olivier (Unicorn, only one of them), or a Crouse or Bennet, or Marchment, or Joshua, or Sherwood, who can still play, maybe score 15-20 and can fight and address when needed, that would change this team instanltly

Hard to aqcuire but would change this

We had the younger Foligno kid.

Need one? We already Geerts one!

That said, no. The Sabres don't need a goon or a heavyweight. They do need someone to go kill Gudas when he takes out someone's knee.

What we actually need, is a single light fighter
