4 years is a long time (and kicks in next summer). That allows a 6th defender to be on an ELC or bridge contract for several of those seasons.

$4M is nothing with where the cap is going.

And if he's a dependable 4D who can PK and provide a goal now and again, instead of a 5... it's a bargain.

Agree on the handling of the Byram situation.  I am still 50-50 on whether enough was done with the forwards though….the potential in what we already have is still there, but unproven.  The Tuch hole is still looming large IMHO.

I’d also still like to see a bigger heavy for our 4th line that can actually log productive regular minutes….other contending teams in our division have them somewhere in their lineups.

How long has it been since the Sabres had a guy for the 4th line that was over 6'2", 220 lbs, could fight pretty well, AND was skilled enough to get you close to 10 goals?

I know that isn't someone you are going to pay the minimum to, but still, has it been since Marcus Foligno (and he was sometimes moved up to lines higher than the 4th line.)

If only Peyton Krebs were an inch taller and 25 lbs heavier. (then I guess he wouldn't be Peyton Krebs)

This is exactly how the “what could so-and-so even have done?” narratives get created and parroted nonsensically. Give him credit when the deal works out. I’m not acknowledging we couldn’t keep him because it’s factually untrue. What you mean to say is that we “couldn’t have kept him at a cost I found appealing” which is…entirely different. Nm the fact he was under contract for this season IIRC. Just because the Online GM Simulator had a slider on that turns the value of the immediate season to “0” doesn’t mean the OGMS represents reality

you can repeat the same thesis you use in every post all you want: the idea we need to start the analysis for literally every move we make at “first off, we had to make it” completely and illogically skews the discussion

also, “UFRA” is a massive “this response was fed through AI” tip off you have to watch that

There was no AI usage in my response.Your claim is insulting

By the second year of his contract, $4M will be the equivalent of $3.25 last year. That’s third pair money for a guy with second pair potential.

I don’t see 2nd pair potential just yet, but still agree. As mentioned I feel like this is almost a no-brainer deal to give out given recent league wide comps. Even if I can’t call myself a “fan” of it in a vacuum. Thankfully the vacuum isn’t nearly as important as how it compares relatively

Less a Jarmo thing than a reflection of a “this league is officially bonkers” type situation, imo

what are we doing here lol

(not saying “Crevier” at 4 is bad, I don’t really have an opinion on it. But it would seem to be a no-brainer type contract given what is being given out now - even if Logan Stanley would have gotten this contract last year and now barely got signed at all)

You have seen zero of the result yet

(I want to live in your world where results aren’t a metric of note it seems really breezy - the interesting juxtaposition here being the phrasing that he “should be” (in the now) given credit because the unit “shouldn’t be” (something that remains to be seen) impacted. Whether or not it actually ends up being so need not apply, I guess? The important thing is he tried, regardless. I’d gladly pay you on Tuesday for a hamburger today.)

This is the Ducks over correcting for their disastrous summer with Carlsson and Gauthier

Everytime I see this guy I get this overwhelming urge to throw my shoes at him, concrete blocks since this arse hole cost me 3 yrs of my post service life.

There are so many ways I can violate that last name…..dammit, wrong arena, sorry, back on subject……

Good points and I agree.  The thing is, with cost control on the core Jarmo can over pay for a stud forward in FA in 2 years without giving away assets, if he chooses to do so.  This makes a McDavid to Buffalo or something equivalent actually doable.  It’s exciting to see a fully competent GM doing his thing

But tonight is his 1st real game with the team, in which he's practiced/skated with different partners because they already had injuries to Muel and Zellweger. And he's only making $900k. He'll have that shield up. we've gotta give him more time.

Well sure, and there's a whole lot of it's only the first game out there. Everything can change. All I'm saying is he has to be better than he was in his first game, and so do the rest of them.

learning he’s a not as good taller version of Power is highly discouraging.

I have no idea if this guy is any good. Hope Jarmo knows what he is doing. He appears to like big D men but not badass big forwards. I hope Crevier can be an enforcer as well as a solid defender.

Not complaining about this deal but Tanner Jeannot signed with Boston at 5 yrs $17 M ($3.4m/yr) a year ago

The Bruins traded for Kastelic 2 yrs ago and signed him to a 3 yr $4.7m deal ($1.55m/yr!)

(not that the Bruins have a great team but no one is messing with them with Zadarov, Kastelic, and Jeannot)

Olivier was traded from Nashville to Columbus for a 4th round pick and last year signed a 6 yr $18 m deal ($3m/yr)

Foligno- once on the Sabres—signed a 4 yr $16m deal in 2023.

When are we going to have a GM who doesn’t ignore the elephant in the room and get a true (forward) enforcer? I’d have much rather landed one of those guys and bypass one of the other deals we have made. And we will probably lose Quinn.

The Bruins? Really? A team we curbed stomped in the playoffs and Zach Benson laughed at? Yea sure let's emulate the team we messed with and knocked out of the playoffs. "No one is messing with them" lol what bs.

Jfc y'all not only have short term memory loss, you're literally still broken from Milan lucic.

Beck Malenstyn, 6'3" 209lbs, 7g 7a last year.

I mean what are you ppl doing? You are melting down because a guy stood up for himself and it wasn't "the right guy" to do it or something?
