Will be interested to see how that line works out. Doan could be the recipient of quite a few garbage goals if he can get to the crease quick enough after digging the puck out of the corner and getting it to a linemate. 1 Quote

Last year I thought it was a little bit of top loading the first line but with the development of the kids this could finally give us a legit threat first line. When’s the last time we had a legitimately dangerous top line? 2 Quote

Doohickie Posted September 29 Report Posted September 29 According to Fairburn the lines are Norris - Tage - Doan Benson - Östlund - Quinn Krebs - McLeod - Helenius Kulich/Danforth - Carrick - Malenstyn Which tells me Kulich isn't 100% yet. 1 3 Quote

That third line makes a ton more sense now. And if Norris is taking 70% of the faceoffs, the top line makes sense, too. Quote

Norris is a better center than Dangles. Norris needs to center this line and let Dangles be Dangles. 38 minutes ago, Doohickie said: Which tells me Kulich isn't 100% yet. He hasn't played in a legit NHL game in nearly a year. Recent injury status or no, he was never, ever going to start anywhere higher than the fourth line. 1 Quote
Pimlach Posted September 29 Report Posted September 29 4 hours ago, dudacek said: Not sure if you caught the point: They went 39/9/5 largely without Greenway, Timmons, Kesselring. The “good” Sabres had 14 skaters that mattered. They lost 2 of them. That 14 did not include Carrick, Helenius, Kulich, Zellweger or Crevier. Maybe they can replace Tuch and Byram from that group, maybe they can’t. But let’s not pretend they can’t win without the likes of Jordan Greenway, or that there are no potential reinforcements. Greenway is the least of my concerns, but Danforth is not an improvement over Greenway, he is filler and that is all. The fact that so many vets are gone, or out of the lineup, is the concern. This "initial roster" looks pretty young to me. 1 Quote

Benson? Power? I’m not worried about the forwards at all. The real issue right now is the 4 D behind Power and Dahlin. Grzelcyk has tons of experience but not in this system. Zellweger has 164 games of experience already at 23, but is also new. Crevier is 25 with 134 games of experience, but again not in this system. 2 of these guys are going to have to step up and play good hockey. 1 1 Quote

Am I worried about Östlund? Yes. The kid looks good, but they just piled a lot on him and I saw this backfire with Cozens, so yes, I do not think him having a strong season is a slam dunk. Kulich? Yes, not sure he is healthy. Helenius? Yes, he is young and forced to play due to injuries. I specifically addressed the defense. With Muel out you have Dahlin and Power and then there is just a bunch of 5/6/7 types. Edited September 30 by Pimlach Quote

Come on Tom! You gotta allow for a little bit of emotion and color when people are criticizing our dear teams or players. Oh! He wasn't a no show, he was just terrible!... is that better??? 1 Quote
Night Train Posted September 30 Report Posted September 30 I'm intrigued by those practice lines. 1 Quote
GASabresIUFAN Posted September 30 Report Posted September 30 Apparently the news on Samuelsson, Lyon and UPL is good and they are trending to either opening night or the home opener. UPL will almost certainly be in the net on Thursday. 1 Quote

Are they now over-reporting the severity of injuries instead of saying they are no big deal and then the player is out for months? 1 1 Quote

FrenchConnection44 Posted September 30 Report Posted September 30 More on the lineup. Love seeing this. Apparently Benson has added muscle / strength. So that’s also a win. McLeod will be even faster. Dude can skate. With Helenius in the lineup, one thing we have is some great skaters. A fast team from last year will potentially be even faster. 2 Quote
LGR4GM Posted September 30 Report Posted September 30 Samuelsson is on the ice for practice today and may play tomorrow 2 2 Quote
