Brawndo Posted September 28 Report Posted September 28 Timmins, Zucker and Samuelsson on IR to start the year 1 1 1 Quote
Pimlach Posted September 28 Report Posted September 28 what happened to Timmins? My initial look says that this opening roster less Tuch, Byram, Zucker, Timmons, Greenway and Kesselring looks to be less experienced and capable than the one that ended the season. And that does not take into account the goaltending injuries. 2 Quote
DarthEbriate Posted September 28 Report Posted September 28 Sheary's knocked out tooth is probably a concussion, then. Losing Timmins and his PK work is a problem. 1 Quote

sabrefanday1 Posted September 28 Report Posted September 28 (edited) The whole Tuch thing was a damn if you do damn if you don't affair for the Sabres brass. I simply could not accept signing a 30 YO to a 8 year contract, but man we wil miss him. His penalty killing was excellent and sadly Greenway was also great on PK when he was healhty. Our PK was a strength but with out them not so sure. Yes, lets hold that magical moment last Spring when when we should have been in the conference finals... His penalty killing was pretty awful last year. He tried for too many SH opportunities, got out of position way too often and hurt the team. Touch was productive, but his 200 foot / all situation games took a big step back last year. Edited September 28 by mjd1001 1 Quote

I'm talking whole season and both playoff series. He was so bad early against Montreal Ruff dropped him off the top PK pair. Quote

Tuch was a business decision for both parties. Replacing him is the challenge that we get to watch this season. I'm looking forward to it, but I sure wished we added more in the off season. 1 Quote

If Östlund and Helenius improve to the level they are able to, and Benson, Doan, Quinn and Kulich don't take any steps back with more minutes, then replacing Tuch won't be as hard. The issue is, the odds that ALL of those things happening is not 100%. Its likely that one or more of the younger guys 'disappoint' some peoples expectations. 2 Quote

How bad could it be? We had the 4th best PK in the NHL? How did we do that if he was awful playing first team PK against the tougher matchups? 1 Quote
LGR4GM Posted September 28 Report Posted September 28 I just hope we make the playoffs. A lot of questions in this lineup. 2 3 1 Quote

It wasn't awful, but if you look at his numbers the previous years, his numbers definitely were worse last year than the other years. If you don't want to get into analytics, months ago during the games I personally posted while watching him comments, like... What is he doing there? It was noticeable just watching him. He was leaving his position early and taking off up ice and oftentimes the opposing team would gain control of the puck and go back into his position. And finally, like I said, it's not just me. If you look at his penalty killing numbers, ice time, Lindy started using him a little bit less towards the end of the year and in the playoffs in Montreal. Sometimes he was on the second unit and sometimes he wasn't out there at all. And there was no mention of him nursing any injuries, so it was basically Lindy or the other coaches saying... Hey, let's give him less ice time and drop him down because he's just not as good as he used to be. The sabers penalty killing was good last year because of McLeod. Greenway was excellent. The couple of other guys that played were pretty good. Of the regulars, tuch looked the worst out there being out of position and his numbers back that up. Maybe he lost the step and wasn't as good? Maybe he wasn't focused as much... Or maybe he is just as good but he started goal hanging to try to get his numbers up into contract here. I don't know which of those it was but it was noticeable watching him play and in the numbers that he was one of the worst penalty killing forwards on this team as the season went on. SABRES 0311 Posted September 28 Report Posted September 28 I’d say Tuch was good for last year’s PK. He’s gone now so it doesn’t matter what he did compared to what can the current roster do. I imagine less SH opportunities this year but that’s fine as long as they keep it out of our net. Quote
#freejame Posted September 28 Report Posted September 28 I’m more confident in this years team than last 1 Quote

We saw Tuch lose a step or two last year and that’s only going to accelerate. Quote

In the final PS game, Timmins crashed awkwardly into the boards behind the net (want to say it was on a rush) and then was slow getting up and back to the bench. Though he got there under his own power; that was the last we saw of him. 3 Quote
Taro T Posted September 29 Report Posted September 29 Not counting guys on IR, 14 F's 6 D 3 G's. With so many guys on IR, they're $1.58MM below the cap currently. Hopefully Sheary, Leinonen, and Rathbone heal up quickly to stop wasting cap space on AHLers that aren't likely to see any callups. Quote
