The ONLY thing accomplished this preseason was getting multiple guys hurt. Start making the NHL preseason as meaningless as the NFL preseason for starters.

they've reduced it to 4 games and vets only play 2.

Just not a great way to start the season.

Depth is an issue for us. We are already relying on our top prospects in Helenius, Östlund, and Kulich. Not sure Kulich is ready.

Now we start with potentially one healthy goalie, our # 3 goalie at that. Two defensemen down, and Zucker out for a while. After the loss of Tuch and Byram in the offseason.

That’s a big talent depletion. We have to hope to get several back soon and hope there won’t be more injuries. Those can derail a season.

I am also wondering from whence the scoring is going to emerge for this team. Lots of potential but also largely unproven potential and I’m not sure we have the lines set very well.

Going to be interesting to see where we are by game 10. And then by games 15-20. Will likely need one of those big 7 game streaks we have come to see the last few seasons over that stretch at some point. Then stay healthy for a while.

I think it's going well.

I can’t think of anything going in a positive direction.  They did not look good last night.

Meh, I'll worry when we play next week. Other teams have the same questions: who's gonna score, will the defense hold up, are our goalies good.

Im not really wondering about who will score our goals.

Doan, Quinn, can replace Tuch's out put a bit, and Östlund is probably having a 20G 30A season.  I think our 3rd line is stronger in scoring than last year.

I presume you mean because of his health issue last year?

Eh, based on the way Lyon looked before he hurt his shoulder, not completely convinced that the only healthy goalie is the 3.  In fairly short order, with this being the pool to select from, that healthy one could very well be at least the 2.  Scramblyness and all.

Lots of people saying this stuff.   Replacing Tuch is not going to be easy, and with Zucker out it makes it worse.

Doan has a lot of pressure on him to score another 25 goals, we shall see.

Quinn has his fan boys (@JohnC and @PromoTheRobot) but I cannot put a lot of faith in him, we shall see.  He is 25 and this is his 5th season, he is a veteran now and we need to see him step up.

Osty is getting paid based on his potential, like when Muel got his contract.   He is 22 with 68 career games, it will take some patience to see consistent play from the young players.   That said, he looks like one of the few that is ready to play.

I've never stated that Tuch's production was going to be easy to replace. (Not saying that you are making that claim.) The reality is that the cap issue forces all teams to make tough decisions regarding who to keep and to play. Player movement is an inescapable aspect in all cap sports. But as you well know, I have repeatedly stated that collectively Quinn and some of the other young players such as Benson etc. should be able to mostly compensate for the loss of Tuch's production.

The real determining issue for Sabres is the play of our goalies and our defense, including the forwards. As you saw in the meaningless game yesterday, the play around our net was lacking. That's the issue to watch.

I encourage you to trust me on Quinn. I'm confident that you will come around on this player. 😎

Considering how many points we were out of playoff position last year in November - I am a lil surprised how much people are freaking out over a few preseason injuries. No one tore their ACL. 🤷‍♂️

Probably because they lost a few top caliber veterans from last year, they are not going to surprise anyone this year, and good start is extremely advantageous.

I'm not rooting for Quinn to fail. I don't want to see him fall flat out there just to get him traded. I want him to do well here (by the end of Cozens time here, in contrast, I was ready for him to go at any cost).  Not there with Quinn yet.

In large part because he skated better last year than any other time in his career, to my eyes.  I still don't think he was 'good' last year, he needs to play a lot better overall, but last year was a step for me from 'bad' the years before up to 'mediocrity' last year.

So, I'm not calling for him to be traded now at all costs.  I'm hoping by game 10 he has 4 or more goals and 30 (quality) shots on net.  I need to see it through.

Had to eyeroll you. Sorry. It's a mellow dramatic take imo
