Benson Östlund Quinn is one that never occurred to me and it excites the heck out of me. McLeod on the wing is something else I never saw coming. That line has a ridiculous amount of speed. Doan with Tage is not something we saw a ton of, but it makes sense stylistically. And I am looking forward to my boy Krebsy annoying the heck out of that certain portion of Sabrespacers who refuse to see how successful the team has been with that combo. It makes me smile that the one thing Lindy hasn’t changed is the thing they want most. Curious to see who in the top 9 is the Zucker placeholder. Looking at this, it might between him, Konsta and Jiri, although there’s a chance McLeod bumps back to centre with Quinn, at the expense of Östlund. Edited September 17 by dudacek Quote

Doohickie Posted September 17 Report Posted September 17 Zucker will be on IR until someone else gets hurt. Y'know, out of an abundance of caution. See also: Mark Stone. Quote
nfreeman Posted September 17 Report Posted September 17 Östlund centering a high-end winger in Benson and a potentially high-end winger in Quinn is a move that an organization makes after committing to that center for the next 9 years. Starting Krebsie out with TT is a similar expression of belief. I think Osty and Krebsie are going to justify these contracts and these lineup decisions. Helenius is also being given a premium spot — I’d guess because they are pretty confident in him. Kulich is more in a “you need to prove it” spot. But if he’s got the goods he’ll move up soon enough. 3 1 Quote

My fingers are tightly crossed he can take a Doan-ish leap with an opportunity. The kid has got buckets of skill. Expected those pairings, at least to start. Zellweger's played with Power before and Lindy seemed to really like having 2 all situation pairings and a 3rd shutdown (or break up and play when the all situation pairings needed a breather) pairing. And Zellweger is the closest of the "lesser 3" to matching what Byram did. Wonder how set in stone the F's are and if Helenius ended up where he did as a defacto placeholder for where they were going to slot Zucker into. Will be interested to see how McLeod and Norris do playing together. That could be the basis of a shutdown line that could pop in more than a few of their own (particularly with Helenius on the line with them) similar to the old Drury line. The F's seem to have a lot of similarities to the '05-'06 Sabres: Krebs - Thompson - Doan (Hecht - Briere - Dumont) McLeod - Norris - Helenius (Kotalik - Drury - Grier; flip em') Benson - Östlund - Quinn (Vanek - Roy - Afinogenov) Kulich - Carrick - Malenstyn (Connolly - Gaustad - Mair) Not exact 1 for 1's (Benson isn't analogous to Vanek; but most of the rest are and no, Quinn isn't a waterbug but he's kind of useless in his own end too 😉 ) but the flavor of what Ruff's cooking is there. 3 Quote
Doohickie Posted September 17 Report Posted September 17 I don't like the lines, but This early in camp I don't mind Lindy checking for unexpected chemistry. 1 2 Quote

Said they studied effective PPs and ineffective ones and decided that they need to put greater emphasis on plays down low. Sounds like Benson and Doan will be part of that first unit for sure with that in mind. And if I heard him correctly, Jack Quinn as well. You can only play down low if you can enter the zone. Perhaps they should put more emphasis on that. Playing down low makes sense, maybe, finally, adopt running the PP from behind the net. Certainly you don't want Thompson messing around the puck on the boards or the point where he routinely fumbles the puck and it ends up as a SH goal for the other team. 15 hours ago, tom webster said: Sports hernias can be very tricky. There was another Sabre years ago whom I vaguely recall missing three quarters of the season. I wish I could remember who. I remember Briere missing a lot of time. I thought I heard taht Tyler Bass had a sports hernia last year. He was out all year. 1 Quote

I like what Zucker brings as much as the next guy, but my bold prediction is that he isn’t gonna displace any of the three kids as they will impress early and to a point that makes it impossible for Lindy to sit any of them. Mr Peabody Posted September 17 Report Posted September 17 Doan with Thompson is something I was hoping for. Doan’s D game is the closest to Tuch we have and my biggest concern with Alex gone. Quote
