I thought Novokov could be a player. Knew nothing about him except he was big and seemed to have good scouting reports. Did anyone see him play in Rochester? Jarmo and co soured on him right away. wonder what happened.

I liked Novikov’s character and aggressive style and thought he had 3rd pair potential despite slow feet.

I don’t think the organization soured on him “right away”.

I think he just didn’t show enough over his three-year ELC to warrant another contract, especially with McCarthy, Strbak and Mrtka passing him on the depth chart and Kleber and Rudolph on the way.

And I also think the player himself saw the writing on the wall in terms of his NHL chances.
