I mean look, how would you feel if a young Sabre has a good season. One season. Say 30-40 goals. Now he wants 15 million. What would you say to that? It's a horrible situation for Anaheim and I'm 100% sure the Philly management is indeed having a laugh over it just because, and because they are Philly. Every been? I hear it's always Sunny there. 

If you really think that has anything to do with it, I don’t know what to say. $15M is the going rate for a 35/40 goal young forward. I’d be thrilled with him on the Sabres and Anaheim may have screwed up the situation but they are going to be so much fun to watch.

Well all I know for sure is it will be a lot of fun to watch Philly play Anaheim next year.

Frankly, it will be fun watching two high scoring offensive teams play each other but I don’t expect any added fireworks. From a player’s perspective, who is really amped up by any of this. All the players involved benefited financially from the Flyers’ moves.

I guess you didn't see their games last year. Philly fans booed Gauthier relentlessly, games were chippy, fights, it was nasty good fun. That was BEFORE the offer sheet. Give it a look this year. I'm sure it won't disappoint (unless of course you don't like that sort of thing as amusement). 

It'll be more fun than searching for Jeff Skinner Euro highlights I'm sure.

Two fights first game, one early, one late, one late fight second game. Gauthier scored both games. So who is going to boo more this game? Anaheim going to boo if they see any Philly front office people? Anaheim going to boo Leo if he goes to wrong bench? I’m sure Philly will boo Gauthier like Buffalo boos Eichel but I really can’t see how this offer sheet changes anything. What it will be is fast paced games between two of hockeys most explosive teams. Tremendous young talent on both teams.

No but the front office is bitter. Gautheir told them he would play for them before they drafted him and then when they did he changed his mind. It's never been clear why he didn't want to play for Philly as far as I know, but he did screw them over so I would think they'd be bitter. I would be. Maybe Briere's a bigger man. Oh wait, he's not even 6 feet 🙂

I’ve seen it reported in multiple places that he told Philly before he drafted him that he wouldn’t play for them because he’s a Pens fan.

they are in trouble for the cap. They might be able to LTIR a player till November, but then they will need to make moves. They are only 9 million under if you assume min contracts for the 2 remaining roster spots. This assume they sign Gauthier for anything over 9 million.

The story I have from Philly fans (and it's the one most of them believe) is that he had said that in junior but Philly talked to him before drafting him and he said he would play for the Flyers. Then he changed his mind after the draft. It's kind of a he said she said so believe whichever version you want, it's likely never out there in full.

absurd to think that is reason he would not play for flyers. Unreal. I don't get it.

This rumor didn't even start circulating until this summer, as far as I can tell.  I don't think it's real, and I think the kid is the problem.

At least initially right? There's always free agency later and he can go wherever after his start. The Brady Tkachuk route. more and more of these kids are listening to agents and making demands though. I think we will see more in the future in various ways.
