Archie Lee Posted July 30 Report Posted July 30 Dahlin locked up for 6 more years at $11 million is really an incredible stroke of great luck or foresight or both. Had Dahlin insisted on a shorter 3-5 year deal, the Sabres would be looking at paying him north of $16-17 million within a year or two. There really is a path here to a long run of success, by current NHL standards. The Sabres will likely have an opportunity to lock up Quinn, Östlund, and Kulich at reasonable numbers, if warranted (I would have no issue giving the Doan deal to Quinn right now). With none of the roster having overly restrictive trade clauses (outside of Dahlin's full NMC), and with most of their draft capital in place, and with some solid prospect talent and depth, and with cap space not being an issue (particularly after this season), there will be opportunities to take some big swings also. I don't think I have rose-colored glasses on this. There are lots of ways it could go wrong, starting with the GM, who has a long track-record in the role that is, generously, mediocre. Quote

As noted our current GM does not have exactly a wonderful track-record. Jarmo has had exactly one trade deadline and one offseason to work on the roster. Because of the Skinner buyout, Jarmo had less money to work with than he could have and he also had young players to lock up and 3 more young players pushing for roster spots. This was not an easy offseason to navigate. He did well to get value for Tuch and Byram, two players looking to cash in on the growing cap, locked up two young studs in Doan and Benson, added D depth and got us into a better cap situation. Overall I thought he did a reasonable job given the situation. 2 2 Quote

The model is primarily based on points versus contract cost and some age sprinkled in. Hutson dropped 78pts last year while only making 8.6million. People loved the Jarmo hire for one reason. He has not delivered. Job security dictates that JK will ride the success of KA's team for a year and half, two years under the cover of Sabres fan fever. Once that fades, under pressure, he'll make Jarmo Moves. And then get fired. Until then Mrs. Jarmo is down at Raymour & Flanigan threatening to walk out if she doesn't get a free lamp. 1 Quote
