PerreaultForever Posted July 23 Report Posted July 23 I think there's only one of two possible explanations here for why this took so long. 1. He wanted Buffalo, but he wanted money more, and Buffalo just wasn't going to give him those sort of dollars. 2. He used the idea of Buffalo as leverage to get his Chicago number higher, but that's really where he wanted to go and end his career all along. in any event, it's over. 2 1 Quote
GASabresIUFAN Posted July 23 Report Posted July 23 Maybe he’ll have the same success in Chi 2.0 as Hall had here when we paid him $8 mill. 1 Quote

... Posted July 23 Report Posted July 23 Maybe he was going to go to the Sabrez until Chicago laid that offer down. Quote
Ripper Posted July 24 Report Posted July 24 Win-Win for the Sabres and Kane. CBH can enjoy his minus 85 +/- during the past five years Quote
Hoss Posted July 24 Report Posted July 24 One thought that hadn’t crossed my mind is if this is also a bit of an indication that the Hellebuyck talks truly are going nowhere. Kane was a very obvious pick to replace an outgoing NHL forward. Yes, I’m aware of the deal Kane got and that we weren’t even going to pay half that. But, this wouldn’t have dragged out for so long had Kane not been waiting on Buffalo. 1 Quote
Flashsabre Posted July 24 Report Posted July 24 I’m speechless. I thought it was 2 years $8 million in total. I thought a million dollar raise over what the Wings gave him was a choice but $8 million a year. They have almost $21 million tied up in Byram and a 37 year old Kane. Quote
Huckleberry Posted July 24 Report Posted July 24 When I saw 2x8 aav, I thought we were never in this. They can spin it being about ice time, but he was never coming here. Chicago might have added few mills to convince him to sign. Honestly he would have had sheltered PP1 offensive minutes here too. But I rather play with Östlund , Helenius and Kulich and go from there. 1 Quote

Honestly can not blame to go finish his career with the team that will have his jersey hanging from the rafters and 3 stanley cups. Can still not see why he went to play for the futile red wings 3 years and not be in Chicago. Quote

Dark times. what are they gutting? i think they’re just thinking he’ll help sell tickets, merch. i think it reeks of desperation. but there’s some superficial logic to the choice. Quote

Foligno for Pominville is what I was referencing 1 Quote

That said, Bedard, Byram, Kane. They should be more exciting next season. More goals for, still terrible defense. He won his cup it’s all about the cash now Quote

He's doing it for a ####load of money. And in a place where's he comfy, is beloved, has had incredible success, and gets to go on a nice swan song farewell tour season with low pressure (to win) and plenty of bobblehead nights if that's what he wants to do. Taro T Posted July 24 Report Posted July 24 Sabres really need to get it out there that they want some other guy that won't be worth what he's going to get and then watch Davidson scoop him up for $4MM more than they should give that guy. The Hawks definitely seem to have a plan - find out what UFA the Sabres want and offer him an extra $4. Had Tuch been smart, he wouldn't have zeroed in on $10.5MM/yr. Had he wanted closer to $13/yr the Hawks would've been all over that. 😉 1 Quote

Cheektorado Posted July 24 Report Posted July 24 Kane has grossed over $125M in his career. If he chooses a handful of millions over having a chance to play for his hometown it shows his true opinion of Buffalo and the Sabres. It could have been a great way to wrap up his time in the NHL. The only attachment he has (for me) is he WAS FROM Buffalo. Quote
