DarthEbriate Posted July 23 Report Posted July 23 The Sabres were "in" on discussions, but they weren't even in the ballpark. They weren't even at the tram station platform adjacent to said ballpark. Now, given Jarmo's edict/mantra of talent isn't always just the skill, but that talent is the application of the non-skill effort -- he's not about to make Kane the highest paid Sabres forward in each of the next two seasons (barring a 40-40-80 campaign from Quinn or a 20-60-80 campaign from Östlund). Scottysabres Posted July 23 Report Posted July 23 Meh, 8 mil for 2 is hilarious. Glad it’s not us. For those whining about getting a replacement for Tuch, here’s a maxi-pad, I hear it helps. Sabres are going to kick ass this season in spite of the “woes me, all is lost” crowd. Just think “Go Sabres” and all will be well. 2 Quote

sabrefanday1 Posted July 23 Report Posted July 23 (edited) My goodness what a overpay...am I ever glad we have a reasonable GM running the ship. I would not have liked $4million a year but $8mil is absurd. I do not care if there is cap space, that is crazy. I much prefer Taresenko at say $2 mill per year for 2 years. Ryan Reaves still unsigned...maybe a cheap contract and have him play only against TB and Florida among other select team's. Need someone to counter those goodballs... pi2000 Posted July 23 Report Posted July 23 Good, dodged a bullet. He won Cups with Chicago, it's a no brainer to go back there.... nothing to be butt hurt about. Quote

xzy89c1 Posted July 23 Report Posted July 23 i dont think sabres had interest in kane at all. He does not care about anything but offensive zone. No effort otherwise. In games i watched he would stay on ice for long shifts in offensive zone and instead of backchecking he would lollygag over to make a change. Quote

thewookie1 Posted July 23 Report Posted July 23 My guess is Buffalo offered 1x4mil +2 mil in potential bonuses akin to Detroit's previous contract. Chicago likely offered less than 2x8mil and Kane was waiting it out to try and come to Buffalo. Eventually Chicago upped it to 2x8mil and needing a contender went out the door. 1 Quote

MDFan Posted July 23 Report Posted July 23 That is not a bad deal for Chicago at all. For the Sabres, it would have been insane and was never going to happen. One year, $4m is what they had, and then they would have had to move out a promising asset or two to make a place for him. I am glad our long nightmare of speculation if Kane would come “home” to Buffalo is over. It’s been going on for 10 years now. Quote
