DarthEbriate Posted July 23 Report Posted July 23 Your Kane is quite a mercenary. I wonder if he really cares about anything...or anyone or winning. That said, Bedard, Byram, Kane. They should be more exciting next season. More goals for, still terrible defense. 2 Quote
RETURNTOGLORY Posted July 23 Report Posted July 23 So much for his love for his hometown team. 3 Quote
That Aud Smell Posted July 23 Report Posted July 23 Based on recent Tweeting, I infer: Bedard's injury tended to assure Kane of more minutes, a more prominent role on the power play, more O-zone starts, etc. (because the team will need to score goals and Kane can do that). Kane was waiting to see if Buffalo would "make a couple moves" (some insider's language from Twitter) to clear space for him in the top-6 in terms of total TOI for forwards. Perhaps Buffalo wasn't enthused about pushing its top prospects down to Roch to accommodate a one-dimensional ~38 year old? 4 6 1 Quote

oddoublee Posted July 23 Report Posted July 23 Good with this. Although, I wasn't all that high on bringing him in at 3m a year. 5 Quote

DarthEbriate Posted July 23 Report Posted July 23 This is pretty amazing. They didn't need to get to the cap floor. This has "With Taylor Hall we're Cup contenders" vibes with the same annual AAV. Except, no desire to trade him because Kane is a franchise hero. Maybe they rent him to a top-team at the 2028 deadline, but even with the rising cap $8M likely won't just easily move to a contender and they'll need to retain or bring $4ish back. Quote

They've got almost $50M in cap space next season with Kane on board. And then after that he retires as one of the greatest in franchise history. dudacek Posted July 23 Report Posted July 23 Wait, we’re back to players using the Sabres to leverage what they want from other teams again? 2 3 1 Quote
Pimlach Posted July 23 Report Posted July 23 So much for adding a vet to top 6. I don’t see it happening. Quote

I almost doubt the veracity of any of the reports that he was even talking to the Sabres. His agent might just be a tremendous BS artist lol 2 Quote
dudacek Posted July 23 Report Posted July 23 The Hawks will be paying Kane and Byram more than the Sabres will be paying Thompson and Dahlin 3 1 2 2 4 Quote
Hoss Posted July 23 Report Posted July 23 Starting to think this is one of those Sidney Crosby things with his contract. 2 x $8M $8M $8M 8 8 1 Quote

Add to that: There's most likely some business bounce that the franchise can capture from bringing back (one of) the franchise's all-time great(s). Quote
