So I’ve been thinking about the many What ifs that have occurred in hockey over my lifetime and I was interested to see if anyone else has pondered what could of happened if one specific event changed.

So the poll is the lynchpin, choose one of the options and run with it however you’d like. How would Buffalo and Dallas be changed in the short and long term. Does it change the league? Feel free to just have fun and go where you want. A year, a decade, whatever.

Lets try to beat the doldrums of summer hockey withdrawal.

Lose in game 7 in Dallas had the Sabres won. Dallas was a better overall team I think. History bias plays a role in my thinking too. When tf is Buffalo ever allowed to win anything, ever? Probably would have lost game 7 in some kind of heart crushing way

Without Hasek, the greatest goalie ever, what would those teams have been? Lots of heart guys but probably a modern day Blue Jackets is what I think of. Solid, hard working team that hovers around the final playoff spot year in and year out

For what its worth, Joe Nieuwendyk did say he felt the Sabres had the momentum and could have won game 7 if there was one. You dont hear that too often, maybe ever, from an opposing teams player. He's cool in my book amd ill always remember him saying that.

Several Stars alluded to the same. They were beat up. Modano was barely able to play game six. Of course no one really knows but it’s great to dream..

I must not understand the premise. If I had to pick between a cup and no cup I’m taking a cup. Maybe Hasek sticks around. Maybe we have more interested buyers and the Regis family sells. Maybe the league doesn’t take us over. Maybe we have more than 10k fans at games prior to the lockout.

Either Dallas wins in 6 or Sabres win in 7.  Very good chance Modano doesn't play game 7 or if he does it's at a Roy level in game 7 vs Filly.  A couple of other Stars were quite banged up as well.  The ice would've been slush in game 7 which wouldn't have made it any easier to skate through injuries.

Personally, just wanted the Sabres to have the opportunity to finish game 6 rather than have the game and thusly the SC awarded to the Stars.

I don't think there is anything I want to do less than revisit sports history with some type of pseudo what if scenario.  Frankly, there is still too much emotion for me tied to those events. I'll just get angry and want to light the world on fire.

Buffalo wins a Cup, fulfilling a life long dream of my mine (and I’d imagine all of us), at the young age of 29, allowing me to dedicate the last 26 yrs of my life to 2 hobbies, Hikaru Dorodango and extreme ironing.

Oh what could have been…..

I thought there was an interview with Brett Hull that said minutes before he scored, he was injured himself and wan't sure how much longer he could play that game, and also, as you mentioned, that Modano may have been a no-go for game 7.

Those 2 and IIRC the 3rd guy that was playing injured was Niewendyk.  That's a lot of firepower to have running at reduced levels, if at all.

I found extreme ironing completely by accident….

put on your Golden Girls caps….picture it, Cuba, NY 1995, returning home from your 6 yr military hitch your at a cabin in Alleghany State Park, your wife wants to do a black jacket dinner, you go fishing instead of getting ready…..when suddenly your pummeled by a flying ironing board and iron while in the creek casting another run…..

Ah yes, it’s the little lessons in life that really leave their mark….that and the fact ever since that day I’ve been an obedient yet sometimes disgruntled husband……
