Chevyvanmiller Posted July 9 Report Posted July 9 Will any of these execs let go end up in Buffalo? https://www.espn.com/nhl/story/_/id/49318286/maple-leafs-fire-hayley-wickenheiser-amid-front-office-purge “Assistant general manager Hayley Wickenheiser, one of the most decorated women's players of all time, was one of several executives fired by the Toronto Maple Leafs on Thursday in a gutting of the front office staff. “Others out of a job in Thursday's surprising sweep include several key analytics employees, assistant general manager Darryl Metcalf and head of amateur scouting Mark Leach, who just guided Toronto through the selection of Gavin McKenna with the first pick in last month's NHL draft.” Quote

Such a clown. I'm a Canadian who cheered for Wickenheiser as she led Canada for all those Olympics. She was a big part of the reason why I encouraged my daughter to play hockey (I won't bring up her 2002 post game interview on this US based forum 🫣 😀 ) Given that, I feel like this is a virtue signal. It's great that a decorated female hockey player was able to break into the NHL, but neither you nor I actually know if she was good at her job as an Assistant General Manager of Player Development. The list of NHL star players that failed in coaching and in the front offices is long, so who actually knows if she was good? Whether she chooses to find work elsewhere in the league, or step away to perhaps focus on her being a physician, I wish her all the best! 3 Quote

It's not like Leach picked someone other than the consensus #1 player. Quote
