Last season, Krebs finished 169th in scoring among NHL forwards with 39 points. He did play all 82 games, but the first 29 games of the year were largely on line 4, where he had 8 assists. Over the last 53 games he had 12 goals and 19 assists, for a 48 point pace. Of the 168 forwards who finished with more points than Krebs last season, only 4 (four) averaged less than 60 seconds per game on the PP (Protas in Wash was the lowest, averaging 28 seconds per game on the PP). Krebs had next to no PP time, averaging only 5 seconds per game on the PP.

Last season, all things considered, Krebs scored like a low-end 2nd line forward over the course of his full 82 games. Over the last 53 games of the season, when he played high in the line-up, and despite getting no PP time, he scored like a mid-to-high-end 2nd liner.

Almost anybody on the Sabres roster playing with our two best forwards (Tage & Tuch) would have had the same production that Krebs had. Quinn. Konsta. Benson. Zucker. Anybody.

Weird that such a talented guy couldn’t find time on a terrible power-play. Also weird that such a talented guy got yanked off the top line for Benson when the top line wasn’t scoring in the playoffs. Sounds like a guy who is a mediocre product of his linemates and not the other way around.

You would think, but actually only Benson was more effective, at least in terms of expected goals. 🤷

I don’t see anybody arguing that Krebs is driving his own line. It’s a weird flex to me, to use “Krebs produced in a situation where he should produce” against him.

It’s a little like McLeod isn’t a 2nd line C, even though he played 2nd line minutes and produced 2nd line points on a team that finished 4th OA.

Are their better 2nd line or middle six,  options than Krebs?  Of course. Are there some on this team already? I think likely so. But that doesn’t mean Krebs isn’t capable of playing a scoring role on a contending team. He just did.

This kind of proves my point in a way. The line was good no matter who was there. It’s less to do with Krebs. But he did drag the line down from Benson.

I think this is very fair. I don’t mean to hold it against Krebs that he was (my words —>) ‘fine’ riding shotgun. I am just very ready to try out other guys.

Check out moonwalkers with Ron Perlman. It connects the dots. Hysterical action comedy from England.

Sure it looks good but it’s sooooooo boring. Also Sprach Zarathustra is an absolute banger though.

You definitely have to slow down your phrasing to watch this.

It’s just fascinating to me that almost 60 years ago, before the Timex Sinclair TX81Z was even a thing, let alone any Apple product, AI going bad was already a theme. I know this is widely known, but HAL is just one letter before each of IBM.

Oh, and I like Krebs.

And rather than have the sounds of jets whooshing by like in Star Wars and other "space" movies, the rocket ships make no sound in outer space.  No air, no medium to transmit soundwaves through.

Also, it's rather shocking that Planet of the Apes won the Oscar for makeup / costumes (pretty sure it was makeup; maybe the other) rather than this movie.  The early humanoids were very realistic.  Roddy McDowell, not so much.

HTF did he end up with the absolute last one?

Were the players afraid that his might set a precedent so they pushed for it to be at the very end, or did neither side give a rat's bippy about it affecting any other players?

That's annoying.

google AI tells me that a typical 40 pt. player in the NHL (Krebs had 39) makes between 2.5 and 4.5 million. Make of that what you will. I just wish we could eavesdrop on these things where the player talks himself up and the team sh@t talks him down and tries to crush his soul. They must be fascinating exchanges.

When is it announced that the Sabres choose the arbitration term?
I have to imagine they’ll request one year because two years walks Krebs to UFA. Not that I’m worried about losing him for nothing, but with elevated salaries in 2026…I don’t think there’s any reason to give F10 on this team extra money to buy future years. I hope that is not a hot take for a 39 pt forward who rode shotgun on the top line for a lot of 25-26.

One thing I will opine…unless Krebs takes a Malenstyn AAV, I don’t want to give Krebs additional term. He may have more projected value than this, but I’m not willing to bet on it if I’m GMJK.

Therein lies the rub. At $2.5, it’s a steal, at 4.5 not so much.  FWIW, I don’t see how an arbiter doesn’t award Peyton at least $4 mill a season.

Krebs is worth more than Beck, period. More offense, better production, more versatility, more data. He’s getting more than Beck. No question.

Krebs value is that he can literally play on any line and not look out of place regardless of which one.

He’s a fourth line guy tho. Pay him like a fourth liner or get a different one.

It all depends on who the comparable are to get him to that $4 million figure. I have no idea who those are and what others are making at this point, if they’re even allowed to be used as one. But yeah, he goes north of Malenstyn’s number because that number is a really nice and low AAV.

Krebs had .48 ppg last season, played all 82, with 12 goals and provided lineup flexibility.

Other players with similar ppg and goals (not being paid as a goal-scorer), who drifted up the lineup, and have recently signed contracts:

Ryan Poehling - 11-25-36 .48ppg, AAV $3.75M

Mackie Samoskevich - 12-20-32 .42ppg, AAV $3.85M

Pius Suter - 13-16-29 .45ppg, AAV $4.125M   (signed in 2025 season as a UFA)

Andrei Kuzmenko 13-12-25 .48ppg,  AAV $5.00M   (was a UFA already at $4M+ on previous contract)

Krebs should be asking in the $3.7M-$4M range.

If he goes 1-yr or 2-yr, his next contract could net him in the $5M range if he can have one solid scoring season as Suter did with the Canucks in 2024-25.

The starting point for Krebs is $4 mil (100K per points), now add position versatility and surprising physicality and your talking about 4.5.  The real question for the Sabres is what is his future with the team.

He has the possibility of being a long-term fixture on the 3rd line.  Someone who plays up when needed, but becomes a stalwart PKer.  The roster surprisingly opens up for him to assume that role next season as Zucker, Carrick, Quinn, Östlund, Kulich and Danforth are all free agents after this coming season.

My guess right now is the Sabres go 3 years at 4.5 as a settlement of the arbitration case.

Beck does a few things really well, he hits and he is strong on the pk.  He stays out of the box for a guy with all those hits. He can fight, but not really his game.

Krebs is versatile and works hard but what does he do that stands out?

I think you answered your question: his versatility stands out.

Seasons don’t play out like a summer depth chart and you need someone to play effectively in multiple roles across the lineup as injuries and matchups require.

You can’t play Beck on a scoring line, you can’t play Quinn on a checking line, Zucker can’t play centre.
