And can't really recall a season when someone wasn't on IR to start the year. Gilbert initially being the 1st D call up when someone goes out injured drawing Metsa into the lineup. Helenius starting the year in Ra-cha-cha untll a top 9 player goes out injured and then getting called up and never wearing Ra-cha-cha 94 again. If Kozak clears waivers, expect he's the callup when someone on line 4 goes out injured (unless there's no room on the top 3 lines for Krebs and then he needs 2 4th liners to go out). Still expecting more moves, but not nearly as convinced there'll be a blockbuster as was when the Habs snuck by them. I would prefer for Helenius to be so good in camp and preseason that they can’t send him down. 3 1 Quote

Gilbert might clear, but he's a bubble veteran and if somebody has injuries I could see him claimed as well. That doesn't really concern me though. My point is really if you are truly setting up a culture of earning the spot, everybody equal and the job goes to the best player (which they have alluded to now establishing) how do you maintain that if Helenius, Östlund or Kulich outplay Zucker, McLeod, even Quinn. It's a tricky issue for a newly established culture that you want to develop and not work against for convenience. I could be wrong, but I think Zucker is at the point of his career where he might start to suck. Just a question of how bad. 1 Quote

He finished second on the Sabres in hits with 201 and fourth among forwards in blocked shots. His 12 ESG puts him at 6th for forwards. How did you get Krebs’ agents notes for the arbitration hearing? And he played over 80 games in each of the last three seasons and 74 games the season preceding, so he plays with bumps and bruises. Good example to his teammates. Easy to see why Ruff likes him. With his new contract, glad to see Jarmo does as well Quote

dudacek Posted July 14 Report Posted July 14 Sabres presser had a couple interesting factoids that I haven’t seen talked about much: Krebs was top 25 in the league in hits last year and one of just 7 players who had 200 hits and 35 points He was also in the 90th percentile in both max speed and speed bursts. Hes not Doan or Benson, but he is very much a player who helps create the Sabres identity up front 1 1 2 Quote

oddoublee Posted July 14 Report Posted July 14 Based on this 4 year contract and trade rumors crawling to a halt, if I had to bet, our lineup is set going into camp. UPL/Lyon Samuelsson Dahlin Power Crevier Zellweger Timmins Metsa Forwards, I see one of two paths: Benson Kulich Tage Östlund Norris Quinn Zucker McLeod Doan Malenstyn Carrick Krebs Or Kulich is not ready and... Benson Krebs Tage Malenstyn Carrick Danforth This a playoff team? Quote

It’s a 109-point team that roughly substituted: Kulich for Tuch Helenius/Danforth for Greenway Carrick for Dunne Zellweger for Byram Crevier for Kesselring/Bryson So probably? Quote

I'm 50/50 Kulich can't play as many roles as Tuch did Helenius I believe starts in Rochester. Danforth is not better than Greenway. Zellweger is not close to byram in terms of ability. Good puck mover - deployed offensively mainly...I think he gets sheltered minutes here as well Crevier is an upgrade. I'm 50/50. If they get in...it feels like a WC team and not a top 3 division team. Quote

What if the goalies regress and Samuelsson returns to his injury prone ways? What if Quinn drops 30 and Norris plays 75 games? So many variables. But I do believe there is enough talent on the roster. 1 Quote
