I'm hesitant to add a roster forward to the package as they don't have the depth that they had last season Mayne they add Kane tomorrow and that allows them to trade Quinn? The good thing is on a prorated basis, they had 10 points they could lose from last year's team and still make the playoffs. Right now it looks like they've lost almost exactly that many. But there's still opportunities to be had to bring this a few extra standings points. 1 Quote

Hey maybe with Kulich returning and a full season of Helenius and Östlund, not to mention an improving Power. ......they could be better ?? 2 1 Quote

Best team in hockey from December onwards I’m pretty sure that we’re a top team in the league dating back to January 1, 2025. The first quarter last year was just a little funky. 1 Quote
mjd1001 Posted July 1 Report Posted July 1 (edited) Do I think the team is better today than it was 2 months ago? Nope, sure don't. But I think there is a chance they can be better by the end of the year even if no other moves are made. Doan and Benson with more minutes. Östlund and Helenius developing and building on what they did in the playoffs. Maybe, possibly a better 3rd pair D-unit. Is all that guaranteed, again, no, but its possible. But I'm happy with what Jarmo has done so far. I'm a 'build from within' and 'have patience' kind of fan. I was worried Jarmo was gong to trade #4 and/or Östlund and Helenius...and maybe other assets. I know there is a middle ground between what he did (or in this case didn't do) and doing all that....but I would rather err on the side of developing what you have vs trading for hired guns. I think this team may not be the best, but if they started the season the way they are, they won't be 'outgunned' game in and game out. They can/should compete. And with the Cap space, they can afford to wait to see what shakes loose through the rest of the offseason or early into next season. Edited July 1 by mjd1001 1 Quote

I think they took off when Power, Byram and Samuelsson hit a new level of play Doan was a great add but he is hardly a grizzled vet. Im not saying you want a full line up of kids but sometimes waiting for them to develop actually is the best way forward Quote

The trades and signings really helped too. Lyon? He was our mvp for long stretches. Tage was a trade. Tuch was a trade. Byram was a trade. It’s relatively early in the offseason. It’s ok to say Jarmo has been smart but a little lacking in addressing the now-roster that was one of 5 remaining squads, that lost 2 big players. Edited July 1 by Nacho Libre Quote
Taro T Posted July 1 Report Posted July 1 Just now, PromoTheRobot said: Didn't we lose Dunne today? And Krebs isn't locked up just yet. Yes, they lost a player that currently would be #16-18 on the depth chart when, at absolute most, teams keep 14 healthy bodies on the 23 man roster; and they'll very possibly only keep 13 there. It's a loss. But not exactly in the same area code as losing Tuch was. 😉 Quote

So it's really just replacing Tuch But you also add Kulich and Helenius, that's not nothing. im just not ready to riot if no more moves are made. They are still a very good team 4 Quote

But we don't have to worry about that unless Kane signs. And frankly why does that have to wait until tomorrow? Dramatic effect? It very well might not happen. Edited July 1 by PromoTheRobot Quote
Dr. Who Posted July 1 Report Posted July 1 Just now, COSabreFan said: Why not? Better then run it back with the kids. Because it's going to be a bad contract as it ages out, probably in two or three years. I don't think that's prudent. The D remains the strength of the team and I think enough has been done that the loss of Byram is not going to drastically reduce the quality of play there. I'm also optimistic about the kids and still expect an addition or two. I wouldn't be making comprehensive pronouncements based on July 1st. 2 Quote

Especially with Jarmo at the helm. But it’s not horrid and there’s still time to add I’m kinda still really hoping on Helle. But if this is it this is it. Playoffs still a good possibility. COSabreFan Posted July 1 Report Posted July 1 All the GMs in this city do is act like they are trying SUPER HARD to get top players. Then they pretend to be “REALLY MAD” about it when they get none and then sell these fanbases stupid fu*cking things like “everyone eats” or “the kids.” Wash, rinse and repeat!! They know what the deal is, and they know these fanbases will take it as long as they can break tables and pound beers out of a fu*cking sword!!!!! Expect better. Quote
Flashsabre Posted July 1 Report Posted July 1 LOL 1) I didn’t realize the offseason ended July 1st 2) Which signing today was going to improve the Sabres? 3) why do some still fail to comprehend that they have too many bodies as it is. 2 2 3 Quote
