That deal is allegedly dead.  If one was a precursor to the other, than is Kane also not happening?

The jury is still out on that.

But  yes, I could see signing Kane in conjunction with a totall separate deal to open up a spot on the forward lines for him.

We have 14 or 15 forwards under contract (if you count Krebs); 12 start on any given game.  If you sign Kane, you probably want to move 1 or 2 forwards out in another trade, whether it be Helle, Larkin, Thomas, for picks, whatever

Have complained about Ruff's characterization of their entries AND their ability to generate scoring chances quite a bit.  Your observation isn't quite the "gotcha" you expect it is.

There is a monstrously large gap between what the coaches publicly claim is happening on the PP and what the eye test and the results indicate is actually happening.  Just one example - Ruff is on record as saying that the Sabres PP ranks in the top 5 (or was it top 3?) in entries leaguewide.  If THAT is what their metrics and analytics are honestly telling him then their metrics are completely useless in this particular phase of the game.  Their entries are particularly bad.  That's not the only issue with the PP but it is one of the major ones.

If you replace Appert with whoever, they are going to still run Lindy's system. So what's different?

Per Chris Cheilos is down to Buffalo or. Chicago.

Chicago’s main advantage is there is less competition for a Top 6 Position, compared to a Top 9 in Buffalo

Buffalo's main advantage is it's a playoff team, and with a certain trade, a Cup contender.  CHI is not and their star is out for the first 2 months

Where in the hell is Ruff going to stick all of these forwards?

Bedard will be back by October.

Buffalo is much closer to contention.

I guess it depends on what Kane wants, money or to contend. With his parents still here in Buffalo I’d think it would be a nice career finish to contend with them at home, but who knows honestly.

We could always offer sheet Bedard 🤣

The report I saw was he had surgery July 8 with a 4-month recovery time (November).

4 months not counting fancy blood transfusions, peptides, and HGH.

I kid, I kid. Kind of.

For me, you sign Kane 1x3mil with up to 2 mil in bonuses based on points and games played. Then start either Helenius/Östlund and Kulich in Rochester to start the year. It will assure us strong depth in the case of the likely Norris injury and any other that may creep up.

I love our 3 prospects but I also don’t want them all on the team to start the year for both the literal and figurative impact that would have to how the offseason went.

I don't hate what you're saying. But are we comfortable committing 18 minutes a night to Kane in Ruff's demanding two way system.

Look what happened to skinner and JJ. (Assuming you believe Ruff wanted them gone for their one way focused play)

Chelly didn’t beat around the bush either if you watch the clip. Flat out said his source was Kane himself.

Kane against middle six lines with Doan and Norris will be fine: their pace and diligence will cover for his flaws, and his strengths will help them fill the net.

Doubt he’ll get 18 a night, more like 15 with 4 of those on the PP, which he will also improve.

Ive really warmed up to this idea.

Why did he seem to not want to play for the Sabres all these years when he was available.

Maybe because we stunk, had bad management, bad coaching and little to no hope of making the playoffs?

As to signing Kane now, I don’t want both him and Zucker in our top 9.  I would take Kane over Zucker, but we are already committed to Zucker.

If it's true that Kane is weighing up Buffalo vs. Chicago for a final contract I would bet he'd pick Buffalo if we already had Helleybuck. Get it done.

Not overpaying with Östlund or Helenius for Hellebuyck is my priority

Personally I am not giving Helenius up to any trade. I see things in him I have not seen in a Sabres prospect in a long time. I look at where his game is and where his potential is and I find myself thinking why was he not drafted higher??? Mark my words, in 3 years he is Sabres leading scorer (or minimum top 3).

Östlund I give up reluctantly. Would rather give up Quinn but if it takes Östlund and say we keep Mrtka because of that I'd live with it. I think it would still end up being the right move.

So explain to me why Buffalo has to improve itself while the Blackhawks are a mess? "I want to win" doesn't compute in this scenario.

You'll have to ask Patrick.
