Hate it. Shouldnt be that hard to NOT hire the guy as a scout that blew up your star goalie and talked ***** about it in the best years of your franchise.

As a Sabres fan, I hate Milan Lucic, who played for one of the team's biggest rivals and was a part of one of the lowest points in franchise history, when he "ran" star goalie Ryan Miller and the Sabres barely responded.  In following sports over the years, I've found that players often take these on the ice/on the field incidents more lightly than fans do.  Many players who had altercations on the field/ice become teammates later in their careers and/or meet at league events, are teammates on Olympic/All Star teams, work in a front office together, etc.  Rob Ray and Tie Domi beat the crap out of each other on the ice for years and are now good friends.  So the Lucic incident from 15 years ago may not be as big of a deal for Sabres players (current or former) or executives as it is for fans.  The domestic violence thing is a totally different issue....

Not to mention when people talk about the incident, it's what happened next that's the issue:  The Sabres' lukewarm response is cited as a sign of the Sabres downfall.  We hate Lucic because the incident highlights what a bunch of pantywaists the team had become.

Lucic was not the first or last player to "run" a goalie.  It's arguable that the Sabres (Malenstyn?) "ran" the Canadiens' goalie during the playoffs.  You are 100% correct that the Sabres' lack of response was the much bigger issue.  This was a problem for the Sabres in the recent past when the Devils took a cheap shot at Tage Thompson with no response.  Fortunately, Ruff worked with the team after that and they've solved this problem.  Tage fought the Devils player (Noesen?) in the next game against them and since that time the Sabres have subscribed to the "grab a guy" philosophy.

The Sabres didn't stand up for Miller because they didn't like Miller. Simple as that

Or they could just realize that this has zero impact on their fan experience.  We're never going to have any idea of what he does.  But hey, it's the internet.  We need to complain about something.

I can't tell if this is a serious comment.  If it is, do you have any information to back up this theory?  I have no insider information, but I've followed the Sabres closely for decades and have never heard this theory.  From what I know, Miller was a great teammate and his play certainly was a huge part of that team's success.  Furthermore, even if Miller was unpopular with the team, it really doesn't matter who the goalie is or whether he's well liked in the locker room - if someone runs your goalie or your teammate, the correct thing to do is respond.

For instance, other people complaining.

Also maybe it doesn't effect your fan experience, but to most fans the people that run/work for the organization that we root for is a pretty big part of being a fan.

Im assuming they didn't like him. You ever see some of his post gane interviews from back then? On more than a few occasions, he said certain players were stupid. Kaleta I remember for sure he said that. Theres been other times that he called out the entire team in a post game interview. Would you like that if your goalie embarrassed you in an interview? Those are the types of conversations that should ONLY be handled in the locker room. Pretty weak to call out your teammates like that 

I think Ruff and the team catered to Miller too much because of his personality. He definitely had a short fuse 

I was not a fan for those reasons. Also, while he was a solid goalie, I thought he was vastly overrated by most Sabres fans

LOL. Wow, Peterka, Mitts, Joki on the Bruins, Lucic coming to work here, I think I somehow have slipped into the upside down world.

I guess Jarmo wants to look for guys who can scrap. Lucic doesn't have much knowledge of anything else aside from spousal abuse.

To be honest, this is the kind of turnover in staff and players we should have been seeing with every regime change.  Until Kevyn it felt like everyone was trying to just stuff in JAGs around Jack and Reino hoping somehow a culture would develop.  Kevyn brought about a seismic shift by trading Eichel but couldn't complete the culture shift that was needed.

Jarmo is setting a clear vision for the team from the front office to the players and instilling an attitude of determination.

I hate Lucic but if he becomes part of the machine needed to push the Sabres to a Stanley Cup championship I can hold my nose and tolerate him.

Did Jarmo know the history?  Maybe he did and he wanted to send a message, one similar to the message about losing because they were getting outworked.  This message is that the Sabres need to stop feeling for themselves and get over themselves.  The past is in the rearview mirror.  Time to look forward.

Tim Graham mentioned on his podcast today, he reached out to Miller via text and asked if he had any comments about the hiring. Graham received a one word response to his question,  “ Nope”

The history? Obviously doesn't care. I guess he doesn't care about the spousal abuse either which is why the Bruins cut ties with him. So now the Bruins have higher standards or more class? That would be new. 

I suppose it's all just about winning now and I guess that's what we wanted. Lucic adds a viewpoint that has maybe been lacking. Although if that's the case couldn't they just have asked Rob Ray for his opinion.

I'm not getting over this anytime soon. It makes me question Jarmo a lot.  If he is so oblivious that he literally hired the biggest villain in Sabres history, what other things might Jarmo be prone to do?  Serious lack of judgment or doing your homework.
