Whom is villalta? Anybody to be intrigued about?

Not at all. He's a career AHLer with 3 games of NHL experience in the Arizona/Utah system. 3rd round pick almost 10 years ago.

But! He's a solid AHL starter which is something the Amerks desperately need this year after Levi's departure. He'll keep Ratzlaff in his place as a backup, and Leinonen in his place as a scrub.

They had non-game worn Buffamooses available from last year's Bills day game.  Don't know if they do it for other games or not; but they definitely had those available.  Pretty sure they were only available at the rink though.

Thats the problem, they don’t offer them on their website. I would have bought one. Many other minor league teams offer alternate jerseys on their websites.

Not having one prospect among the forward ranks is odd and disheartening.

Jake Richard.  Scored a goal last night.  He's an interesting one too.  Had a really good sophomore college season.  Looked pretty good in the preseason too

Not Amerks, but AHL. Check out what might be the worst call I’ve ever seen in a hockey game.

The icing rule is tricky. They blow the whistle before it crosses the line. That’s a crazy scenario that blows it up. You’d think that in this case they’d be able to fix it by review, but I guess not.

I agree with this.

Also, isn’t he in a similar place to where Alex Lyon was at the same age?

Goalies oddly seem to be emerging from unexpected places more often lately.

Lyon had much better AHL numbers at the time (and still does), basically a full 0.1 higher in GAA year-in and -out.

At age 27, Lyon had only played 13 NHL games and would add 3 more in that season. I do agree that Lyon was a late-bloomer. He didn't show up until his age 30 season where he led the Panthers to the playoffs 1 point ahead of the Sabres.

Amerks announce Scott Ratzlaff was assigned to Orlando in the ECHL

Hopefully they got a guarantee that he’ll play. They already had 3 goalies on their roster, and are the Tampa/Syracuse affiliate.

Not sure if that means Talon whatshisname has passed him on the depth chart, or that he’s in the E to get more playing time.

I guess we will see by how much each of them plays.

For sure he's ahead. Ratzlaff was really, really bad last season and got yanked in the prospects challenge. Boyko likely isn't going to be an NHL goalie, but he had some really good numbers in the Finnish elite league playoffs last year. He's much better suited to be the backup.

Ratzlaff is definitely never sniffing the NHL. Boyko is huge and not that much older. I'd take my chances with him.

I see Roest has revealed they have a deal now in place with Orlando to send any excess players needing ice time down there.

Not too much to note as it's only been 2 games. Villalta looks solid, though he struggled in the shootout yesterday. Mrtka looks more comfortable than last year already. I can tell I don't really like McCarthy so far. He took 3 minor penalties in 2 games. Chasing too much on D and the result are these minor infractions.

By far the biggest weakness on the team is that they have no one to run the PP at the blue line. They most Zac Jones and didn't bring in anyone to replace him. So they are running 5 forwards on the power play which, predictably, has resulted in many shorthanded chances against. Roest seems on top of things, so I'd like to see them bring in someone that can run the PP.

As soon as the Sabres are healthy (if they ever are), you might have Metsa there, as they might decide the spare D should be Grzlcyk on the big club.

After the whole fight thing and Metsa getting the second game, I’m thinking Grzelcyk is the one to go down. Either way, they’re continuing both pretty much fill the same role. I don’t know if there’s PP time in there or not.
