I would note that most ppl think Östlund and Kulich and Helenius and other young guys will improve but Zellweger, Crevier, and Timmins just are what they are. I think at least 1 of them can probably get better. 

Of course THEY aren't going to do that. He said he'd do that in his perfect world. He's not wrong. The D as a whole is not a strength now unless one of those bottom 3 steps up and surprises which is unlikely. 

The D is okay, can be pretty good, but is not a strength.

If not being able to play with Peyton Krebs has an even minuscule negative impact on your play, then you should never be allowed to be referred to as a first-line player or star ever again.

I am taking a small liberty with the phrase. While I know YOU are not criticizing him, the praise is so faint that it SHOULD be viewed as a criticism, regardless of your intent.

isn’t it weird that for a guy that “plays up and down the lineup”, no one talks about his skill, puck possession, vision, creativity, hockey IQ, etc., etc.? You know, things that actually make a really good hockey player that you wanna pay millions for.

The guy skates hard and wants to be here because he knows he’s neither fish nor fowl.

I don't think anybody is trying to sell him as anything more than a useful role player. Plays up and down the lineup means that he can play first line minutes without tanking the line. And he does have a pretty good hockey IQ. He knows how to battle on the boards and knows where the space is being created in the middle of the ice. He sprung Thompson and Tuch for a lot of clean chances in the offensive zone by kicking it to them or sliding it between his legs from the half wall.

 

He's definitely not a world beater, that's why I called him by the dreaded moniker "former first round pick."

Jarmo said arbitration is a factor in Krebs contract talks. Basically, they are trying to determine the top and bottom of potential awards and find something in between.

From GMJK’s presser after July 1, it sounds like arbitration is the course that Krebs may take. He has that right.
I concede Krebs value is higher than his qualifying offer so I anticipate that’s his route and we will see what the number ends up being. Personally, I still think he’s expendable (given how many forwards are already signed and penciled in), but the Sabres have the cap space to manage any number arbitration comes up with. Jarmo also said Krebs is valuable to this team. So I suspect he is back one way or another.

It can be, but I'm pretty much over that mindset of if this young guy takes a step. The team is either good now or not good now and if a guy takes a step it's a bonus but not something I want to bank on. 

Right now I think we are a bubble team and it'll be a big big step backwards if we miss the playoffs next year.
