Ghost of Ville Leino Posted June 29 Report Posted June 29 Krebs is the kind of role player that you'd be foolish to lose for no reason. You can play him anywhere in the lineup and he never takes a shift off. He's got some chemistry with Tage and did a really good job working the boards for him. As long as the contract isn't above like 5.5 million aav I'd take him back, hopefully we can get him for something more like 4/4.5 1 1 2 Quote

When he was on the ice, the team outshot and outchanced Montreal. His +/- looked bad some games more as a result of shoddy goaltending behind him than his own doing. We didn’t start doing well in Montreal until Krebs was relegated to 4th line benched minutes and kept away from Tuch/tage. He was a liability. I still blame coaching first for keeping that line together as long as they did but that’s what happened 1 Quote

I agree in concept, but I can come up with some... -3rd pair Defense. They DO play 15+ minutes a game, and I think Metsa was a bit overrated by this board. -3rd line. If you are going to have Quinn, McLeod, and Zucker on this roster I DO like them playing together. But as he gets older, Zucker is turning into not much more than a powerplay specialist, Quinn is a shooter but he can't generate his own shot, and McLeod STATISTICALLY and ANALYTICALLY had a decent year, but wow did he have some bad games. -Goaltending. Not a 'hole' per say, but it will take a lot of convicing for me to think they will be anywhere close to where they were last year. I think they are likely to take a decent step back in net. So yeah, nothing is glaring as a gaping hole that is going to sink the entire team by one player or position. But there are definitly places that guys have to 'step up' and be better than last year. 1 Quote

That means no one brought in to replace Tuch in the top 6 and no veteran help if Norris goes down. He’s not talking about quality or chemistry, he’s talking about having 23 NHL players under contract (not including RFAs Krebs and Zellweger) and 23 roster spots. Someone moves in, someone has to get moved out. Quote

No they don't. They have Crevier, Metsa, and Zellweger plus all the rochester RHD that they can call up What 3rd line hole? where? Okay, switch out Zucker for Helenius, 2way forward hole fixed WE HAVE 3 GOALIES. These are not holes, these are areas you want to improve. 1 1 Quote

But there is a full roster currently assembled and it wouldn't get its brains bashed in on a nightly basis. It might even be able to do some damage if a couple of items break their way. (And btw, they don't just have RHD that might be available for call ups, they have LHD that can come up as well in Johnson and Jones and fill in a game or 2 should more than 1 D-man be broken. And don't expect this to be the case come early October; but currently they actually have FOUR goalies. Fully expect Levi moved unless both UPL and Lyon are out and they still want to run with the latest version of the 3 headed goalie monster. Not much at F currently in Ra-cha-cha, but considering they're shaping up to have 15 or 16 guys that could make the big club, something has to give.) Quote

As in my original post, McLeod had some REALLY bad games, Zucker is turning into not much more than a PP specialist, and Quinn, other than the playoffs is still somewhat one dimensional. 3 goalies, but I don't consider any of them much better than league average. And Crevier, Metsa and Zellweger technically can fill the 3rd pair, but do we know a lot about how they are going to play with this team? They might not be all that good. So yeah, TECHNICALLY there are bodies to fill in those spots, but if something isn't good enough, I consider it a "hole". 1 Quote

dudacek Posted June 29 Report Posted June 29 (edited) The team needs certain elements, but in terms of the depth chart the only significant spots where I see a player ending up cast in a role he’s ill-suited for on a contender are: 1st line forward and 2nd pair defence. Basically, Tuch and Byram 😜 Edited June 29 by dudacek 1 Quote
Carmel Corn Posted June 29 Report Posted June 29 Krebs value playing on multiple lines is overrated. Lindy puts him in these situations not because he is good, but rather because he brings a little energy. I’d keep him for $2.5, but not anymore than that. 1 1 2 Quote
Night Train Posted June 29 Report Posted June 29 If Zellweger gets his extension, Krebs may be done. We'll see. Sabres down to about 10 Mil in space, at present. Salaries have to move out the door before he could be considered. Quote
sabresfan714 Posted June 29 Report Posted June 29 (edited) If anyone saying Krebs who has a career high of 12 goals is worth 5 million then a 50 goal guy must be worth 20 plus. If Jarmo said he would have let a couple of guys walk if he signed Tuch so be it. I would rather keep Tuch and worry about replacing the likes of Krebs in free agency. I agree that Kreb’s game can be easily replaced with lower priced alternatives. What maybe is less replaceable is his enthusiasm to be a Sabre. I will give him credit for looking like he wants to be here, but it’s a business and Jarmo need to make sure each guy under contract is worth keeping….regardless of whether they love it here or not. In thinking about money for contracts, it used to be you’d figure around $100000 per point. I think it’s more like $125000 per point now. He’s worth 5x5. if we had a power play worth a squirt, he’d be worth even more. He draws a lot of penalties. 1 Quote

How about one who is 7th in points, 4th at even strength? A 4th liner. Hardest working player on the Sabres. Starting to become my favourite when I read threads like this. Does whatever the coach asks and always puts the crest ahead of himself. Hope he gets term and a chance to flip his middle finger to the haters after Ras hands him the cup. 😘 Remember when Ras handed him knuckle sandwiches in practice? Quote
SDS Posted June 30 Report Posted June 30 The damning with faint praise is all you need to know about Peyton Krebs. The best his supporters can say about him is that he tries really hard. His work ethic is enough to be useful against weaker opponents, but his lack of actual skill is painfully apparent against better teams. It’s why he was demoted during the playoffs. For all of this talk about him being a substitute for the first line… If he’s on your first line, that line is in deep trouble. At the end of the day a skilled hockey player with great work ethic like Benson gets seven years for 7 million. If Krebs is worth 3.5 million or so, how good is he actually? With all of the inflated salaries, it looks like the answer is in his qualifying offer, while the actual hockey players on this team get real contracts. Quote
