SabresBaltimore Posted June 29 Report Posted June 29 With Malynstyn presumably locked in for the next 6 years, that just leaves Krebs unsigned for our forwards. If you're Jarmo are you keeping him? How much is he worth? I liked Kreb's game last year, but hated him being on the 1st line so much, even when it was working. I have to assume he's well liked in the locker room. You can't argue his effort on the ice, but his execution is not always what I'd like. I'm also not sure where he fits on this team. We still have Danforth and Kozak under contract. How much do we pay Krebs if he's going to be a 4th liner? 2 Quote

As possibly the only “4th liner” that has the ability to play higher in the lineup, I’d like to see him back at < $4 mill a year. 1 2 Quote

If we bring krebs back at 3.5m - is a 7.5m 4th line to high or the new going rate for a 4th line? I don't know the right answer w krebs...I'm torn Quote
triumph_communes Posted June 29 Report Posted June 29 Krebs looks good against bad teams, is a liability against good teams. He will do fine elsewhere 1 Quote

As to Krebs, with potentially no near NHL ready forwards in Rochester retaining Krebs seems like a priority. If we don’t re-sign him, we are going to have to find someone like him to play utility forward . Quote
#freejame Posted June 29 Report Posted June 29 I think if Krebs were on the open market this season he would be signing McLeods contract somewhere. There’s a lot of money out there and more coming after next season. GMs spend. It’s their nature. 1 Quote

It's possible but most teams are going to spend the money on higher end talent leaving less for the bottom 6 types. At least that has been theorized by some of the NHL reporters. I think some of this comes down to how good your agent is and circumstances at the time your contract is up. I don't know if the Sabres feel the need to pay Krebs more than some other team would. Krebs was the last player on this team to do a partial holdout reporting late for camp as I recall. He needs every dollar he can get no matter where he gets it. Quote
pi2000 Posted June 29 Report Posted June 29 he vanished in the Montreal series 0 points, -5 , 4 shots on goal, 40% on faceoffs do better 1 Quote
GoPuckYourself Posted June 29 Report Posted June 29 You can do better than Krebs... He can't fight (or win a fight), he doesn't win faceoffs, his stats look good because we for some reason put him on the top line, I feel he can be replaced with a cheaper version and I don't need my 4th liner to ever play on the top line. Get a PK guy , who fights , wins puck battles etc. 1 1 1 Quote

Trettioåtta Posted June 29 Report Posted June 29 If we can get him for 3.5M for 4 years that would be good. He plays up and down the lineup. There is value in that. He also puts up decent points and can be the energy guy with skilled people. He is not as replaceable as people think 5 Quote
Hoss Posted June 29 Report Posted June 29 I'd rather he head elsewhere to maximize his talent. Ideally we get something for him. See if another team will give you a 2nd or a 3rd for him. 1 Quote
nfreeman Posted June 29 Report Posted June 29 I'd like Krebsie to return, and I think there is about a 65% chance that it happens, especially if Norris is traded. I also think though as an RFA he is still a relatively low priority for Jarmo, after resolving the Hellebuyck situation and perhaps bringing in a decent-to-good UFA forward. 1 Quote
Popular Post dudacek Posted June 29 Popular Post Report Posted June 29 What do you call the player who had the 2nd most ES ice time among current Sabre forwards last year, 5th overall? How about one who is 7th in points, 4th at even strength? A 4th liner. Hardest working player on the Sabres. Starting to become my favourite when I read threads like this. Does whatever the coach asks and always puts the crest ahead of himself. Hope he gets term and a chance to flip his middle finger to the haters after Ras hands him the cup. 😘 5 3 3 Quote
The Jokeman Posted June 29 Report Posted June 29 Package him with Levi and get them out of here. Not that I dislike Krebs as he had a good year last year but don't see him as a full time too 6 guy which is are biggest hole outside goalie ATM. Quote
TheAud Posted June 29 Report Posted June 29 I think he's worth a short term (1-3 years) deal if the money is reasonable. He should not be a part of the 5+ year core however. As others have said he gives you a lot of flexibility up and down the line-up and is an effort and strong culture guy from what I can tell. He's a 4th liner who plays up higher half the time, on a very good team IMO. Quote
K-9 Posted June 29 Report Posted June 29 Our best 4th line combo last season was Beck, Krebs, and Kozak. I like the idea of Carrick replacing Kozak for an entire season as that line would be even better. And as others have pointed out, there is value in being able to seamlessly move up the lineup in a pinch. And he’s another glue guy as well. 1 1 Quote
pi2000 Posted June 29 Report Posted June 29 we can do better than Krebs in free agency will it cost more, probably Laughton, Blueger, Sissons would be upgrades Quote
