Per Friedman Beck Malenstyn signs a 6 year 2.9167 million idollar AAV Extension with the Sabres

I know the running joke is that ex-Sabres win Cups as soon as they leave, but there are some really talented ex-Hawks skating around out there. DeBrincat and Dach immediately spring to mind. Panarin and Teräväinen started off with Chicago.

The apostles had gathered and communed. What they desired was clear.

Lord, our heavenly Father; we desire a hockey player. But we forebode what greed shall bring, and only ask that he plays offense and give nothing more.

In that moment, they had been presented with the DeBrincat.

The apostles looked amongst each other and nodded.

It had been done.

They just traded Cossa. Levi would fill that role.

Don’t they want a youngin

No. They have Trey Augustine which is why they traded Cossa. They don't want Levi.

Yup. They traded Cossa for the same reason we are likely to trade Levi. And acquiring Levi would mean they would need to trade Levi for the same reason they traded Cossa.

A few vital stats on Debrincat:  he turns 29 in December.  5’8” (which I had not realized), 180 lbs.  He’s played 82 games each of the last 5 seasons, in which he’s scored, in reverse chronological order, 41 goals, 39, 27, 27 and 41.

I’m interested, of course depending on the price.

His biggest issue is he’s not defensively good and is a UFA next year. I would of signed Tuch 8x10mil before I signed Debrincat 8x10mil for instance

Yes — his defense and UFA timing definitely affect the price.  I guess it’s likely that his preference and Detroit’s will be to trade him to a team with an extension as part of the deal, which will increase the price of the trade.  I wouldn’t want the Sabres to do that.  Someone probably will though.

That’s too long for a fourth line player

I don't think I've ever seen a contract like that for a bottom six type of guy. I really like Beck so I'm not upset.  Just weird

Assuming a Krebs extension, this gives the Sabres 15 NHL forwards.  Helenius, Östlund, and Kulich could all be sent to Rochester to start the year, but I think all seem likely to Sabres from day 1.  Danforth might be at risk of being waived.  Maybe Kozak would slip through, but his contract is very friendly for a 12th-14th forward.  A trade or two still seems likely.
