Adams might not be a good fit in Boston though. One of our offices for work is outside of Boston in Foxboro.  Also I just visited Boston for a week last month. They don't have palm trees either.

He didn't even go a year unemployed. This past Sabres season saved his reputation.

Again, figured he'd get a job in a team's FO.  Just didn't expect him to get THE job in a team's FO.

IF he does well in this role, expect he'll get a chance in somebody else's FO too and if he does well there then he MIGHT get another crack at a GM's job.  But personally don't expect he has the stomach nor the gravitas to be THE guy.  But because of that belief, hope he does get a shot at that top spot in Beantown pretty soon.  😉

If people actually thought he was responsible for building this team outright or that he did it in a reasonable timeframe, he’d have gotten a GM job easily I’d imagine. Why wouldn’t you want the guy “responsible” for such a good situation? We were the toast of the league

a front office hire seems to be a bit of a hedge. An acknowledgement he has value to offer but yet not, as of yet, having made any sort of convincing case of being worthy of the main job

Wait, why did Utah trade Peterka?!

Utah gives up on him after only one season and 1 year after signing him to a nearly $40m deal?

Which is IMHO exactly what he's earned to this point.  Given where the Sabres are, where they came from, and how friggin' long it took for them to get there; he seems to have some qualities that might help an actual "the buck stops here" GM do his job.  But doesn't seem to have the qualities to actually be that "the buck stops here" GM.

Peterka is a cancer. Wonder what he thinks of “being wanted” by management now.

What happened to the mountains, the beautiful skating facility, and all the beautiful girls?

Boston has basically zero drafting skill so I suppose they looked at Buffalo and thought he got a lot of good young guys there so why not. Maybe they finally plan to use some analytics.

Peterka? They were desperate for speed and skill, scoring, so I suspect Marco Sturm knows Peterka well. They've basically replaced Jake DeBrusk now.

Absolutely laughable how people refuse to give Adams credit for the Sabres turnaround. 13 of his guys helped get us to the second round for the first time in 17 years. You may not like the way he did it or how long it took but this team is loaded with young talent acquired during his time here. Hopefully Jarmo can finish the job. I actually liked what Jarmo did today. This team isn't ready to go all in just yet.

I'm happy to give KA all the credit he deserves for the Sabres rebuild. Then I divide by 6 for the 6 rosters he iced during his tenure. The resulting quotient is not anywhere close to acceptable and he should have been dumped 2 years earlier. That's the way I see it.

They felt the two firsts was justification to reallocate elsewhere.  Perhaps he didn't mesh with their group as well as they envisioned.  JJP definitely has a swagger and strong opinion in his own mind of who he is and how he affects the game.

I will give him a modicum amount of credit, but the team became more tight nit and played within themselves when they felt confident a new voice had their backs.  I'll never forget the McLeod trade or bringing Doaner to Buffalo.  But, I will look back at how badly he handled the Eichel fall out, and the piss poor handling of Reinhart. He also alienated and on several occasions talked down on the fanbase as "idiotic children".   So while I think he did a lot to bring this group together, I won't say he was the reason.  The coaching staff and the new direction lit a fire under their ass.  Adams was always reactionary and never progressive

Peterka doesn't wanna play defense or go all out on every shift. He doesn't have a well rounded game.

Oddly enough, Paul Hamilton laughed when he found out about this because apparently there's bad blood between Adams and Peterka for whatever reason. He gave no other details just sad Adams didn't like Peterka. Since Adams hasn't officially joined Boston, he didn't have a say on the trade.

I have got the feeling Peterka burned some bridges during his last year. Dahlin as a captain did not seem overly enthusiastic with Peterkas effort at times, for example.

Getting benched during the playoffs and having his coach call him out to the media in a less than diplomatic way seemed to be a last straw type of event. Even though he regressed this year he is still a player with some upside that could put 30 or more in the net with the right situation. Maybe he will respond better to a coach that knows him.

There is no doubt that JJP can put 30 or more pucks in the net. The problem is arithmetic: He can also be responsible for the other team scoring 45 goals for a net -15. And to accentuate his major defensive liability, in the playoffs his loose game is inadequate for a more tightly played game. The exchange of Doan for JJP was a felonious heist that benefited us. KA's should be given credit for this trade.

I am confused his +/- overall is exactly zero. Where does the -15 come from? I know he is not Doan but he also plays on his off wing which in my opinion hinders his defense to some extent. He also played with the Sabres when they had lesser defense and goaltending. He has to mature but in the right environment he can be a very good player.

Some here are saying Jarmo pushed the inclusion of Doan in the trade.  Could be a hoax.

Whether Jarmo pushed for the inclusion of Doan doesn't diminish the fact that the GM at the time, KA, pulled the trigger on the transaction. It's well known that KA's management style leans toward being collaborative as opposed to being individually top/down dominating. So if Jarmo was a major factor in how the Utah deal was developed, I will give him credit for being an effective subordinate. However, that doesn't diminish the fact that KA was the presiding GM when the deal happened.

When you compare Jarmo to KA at the podium it is evident that there is a major difference in personalities which is also evident in how they do/did their jobs. There is no right or wrong way in management style. Both styles can be successful and both styles can be unmitigated failures. In the end, the measurement is your record.

Terry Pegula has made a lot of personnel decisions that have not worked out. It is evident to me that replacing KA with Jarmo was the right move. It was time.

I just want the record to show that I was the first person to identify the character flaws in JJ Peterka as being representative of the core failings of that team and insist he be traded for a real hockey player in a thread started a little over a year ago, right here on Sabrespace.

Kevyn did not take me seriously and took no action until JJ struck out yet again on Chippewa and forced his hand.

Let the record also show that Adams did not get a call from Boston until after the Bruins called me and I told those butt-ugly ***** to stuff their job offer where not even Chara can reach.

There’s no ***** palm trees in Boston.

Of course Adams doesn't like Peterka.  He wanted to sign him long term and JJ, who didn't even have arbitration rights at the time, said 'hell no' and forced Adams hand.  Adams didn't WANT Doan and Kesselring; he was forced into accepting them as the best value he could get for the guy HE wanted to keep.

Adams was forced by JJ into making a franchise trajectory altering trade.  He then lost his job 5-1/2 months later and the team took off concurrently with Adams departure.

Would be more surprised if the 2 DID like each other.
