mjd1001 Posted June 24 Report Posted June 24 I know everyone doesn't like all the moves, and as of now the team looks worse than last year... FOR NOW... But these last couple of days, even couple of weeks have been fun. 2 Quote

nfreeman Posted June 24 Report Posted June 24 $10.5MM x 8 years isn't surprising IMHO -- it seems pretty clear that Tuch wanted all along to be in the Kempe neighborhood. Presumably he would've taken that deal from the Sabres too. Not sure how I feel about JK not offering it to him. 2 1 Quote

SDS Posted June 24 Report Posted June 24 So all of his family gobbledygook was just that. He just wanted even more money than he can’t spend in his lifetime. There were no actual family considerations. C U Next Time Alex! I hope our new defender puts your head through the boards. 1 minute ago, Second Line Center said: We signed it and traded it to Washington is what it looks like. Thank you. 4 3 1 1 Quote
Taro T Posted June 24 Report Posted June 24 Just now, SDS said: I thought he couldn’t sign for eight years? He could sign with the Sabres for 8 years and then get immediately traded to the Caps. Or, quite likely, even though it isn't the letter of the CBA, they likely let the Sabres trade him to the Caps and then the league and PA let the Caps pretend they'd held his rights since the last Trade Deadline Day so THEY could offer him the 8 year deal. Under the new MOU, whatever team holds a player's rights is allowed to sign him to the new max term of 7 years (come 9/16). Maybe that portion of the MOU was another one that took effect early. This is the NHL we're talking about. Nearly all rules are suggestions. Quote
Nacho Libre Posted June 24 Report Posted June 24 I feel like we’ve lost a lot in Tuch and Byram today. Probably wouldn’t feel so extreme if it wasn’t from..the first good team we’ve had in decades 6 3 Quote
dudacek Posted June 24 Report Posted June 24 I can't remember where I posted it, but I was complaining a few days ago about needing to see Jarmo's not all about spending assets. This, Byram, Greenway and Kesselring have certainly quieted those concerns. Turning a UFA and three UFAs to be into 4, 20, 45, Crevier and whatever this is is good asset management, IMO. Now get out there and do some more spending. 6 1 1 Quote

I'll always remember the series he disappeared in, obviously had his mind on the money. Screw him. To bad Houston doesn't have a team yet, would have sent him there, with all the other roaches. 1 1 Quote

One of the reasons I was in the 'he's STARTING to show signs of slowing down' is this year he seemed to take a step back (in my eyes) in forchecking from 'elite' to just 'very good', and his penalty killing seemed to get worse as the year went on. Still a very good player, still likely to be next year and for a couple more years. But long term, I'm glad Washington is going to be paying him $10.5m per year until he is 38 rather than Buffalo. The team has some pretty big holes to fill now, but they have some young guys among the forwards to help with that, and some assets to (hopefully) get some help on the blue line.
