You have got to be kidding me.  Exactly zero has happened "already" other than trading Kesselring, who was more or less irrelevant to last year's team, and it's been credibly reported today that the Sabres are far from giving up on Tuch.

Well, it was 6 teams, and the proposed offer is an inferior goalie, a guy who is expensive and always hurt and thus likely has negative trade value and a good prospect who is several years away from being an NHL player.

You aren't getting a top-3 NHL goalie for nothing.

Separately, Helly was freaking awesome in the Olympics.  And the Sabres lost to the Habs in the playoffs this year because of mediocre goaltending.

Expect there's a very good likelihood Tuch is leaving in 10 or so days.  Not convinced Byram is on the way out.  The others, for the right price could see them go, but for some of them, the right price is pretty steep.

Like I said I’m taking the vezina goalie. Playoff narratives disappear quicker than they get written. I live here. I know what’s up. We want Helle. The failings are on the team and their increasingly Adams-like GM

In case anyone is unclear from my previous posts, I am in generally in favour of acquiring the player currently the consensus choice of "best goalie in the NHL". 😜

I agree.  I want Helly, but I am not giving up Helenius.  I want both "Helly's".  I understand those that refer to Konsta as a lottery ticket, but I disagree.  He is 20 years old and looked amazing on a big stage already.  Late first round picks are lottery tickets.  If Konsta is one, then he is one with 5 of the first 6 numbers right.  

Here is the thing.  Helly shouldn't take Konsta.  He is a 33 year old goalie coming off a down season and wants to get out.  He won't be free, but he should not cost that much.  Of course, all it takes is 2 teams to have a bidding war.

Winnipeg were the President's Trophy winners last year with 116 points. They had 110 points the season before. Maybe you forgot.

My argument isn’t that it will cost Helenius. My argument is that I definitely trade the guy who MOST likely ends up a second liner for the best goalie in the world when we know we can contend right now - if that’s what it costs. I’d find the alternative laughable

Really?  

1.  What is a 20th overall pick really worth?  It's probably a 50/50 shot that the guy plays 100 NHL games.

2.  It's still the most important position in the game, and Helly still is the best at it right now.  Imagine a tandem of Helly and Ellis, trading off Lyon and UPL, and Levi having a make it or be traded year.

I don't have a real sense of what that will look like with all the obvious question marks tied to cap and contracts — largely created by Kevyn Adams by the way — but I'm kind of jealous that you seem to.

I think the pertinent part for me is we have so many young forwards with upside that I am comfortable we can survive the loss of any given one.

I've got my favourites too, but I can't objectively say any of them will be better than what Jack Quinn is now. Not when none of them were better than Quinn was when they were Quinn's age.

We had an entirely theoretical rebuild in perception around the quinterka exentions. How quickly we forget

Ferraro mentioned on the Dregs podcast that Sabres were eyeing a C at 20:00. Said he doesn't like to mention names but the player is younger than Josh Norris (27). He reiterated think young. Made it seem like the player would be an upgrade & take some assets to acquire, but the Sabres have what it takes.

 

I listened to the clip.....and Ferraro sure seems to imply that the name is one that hasn't really been talked about at all. And he sure seems to imply that the Sabres could do BOTH get a young center AND get an upgrade in goal without depleting the farm.
