Apples to oranges.

I think Brady is overrated, and he has way less term on his contract, so I think that was a good trade for Ottawa if he was going to walk in FA anyway.

Hellebuyck on the other hand, is not overrated. And he still has plenty of term. Winnipeg should still be trying to win a Cup with him.

None of that has anything to do with the player requesting a trade.

Winnipeg is not going to win a Cup with him and it has been long rumored, like well before the Olympics, that he wants out of there.

You can say THAT again.  😉

Yeah, this is kind of like Hasek wanting out of Buffalo.  Would be very happy to see him in B&G even at a cost that's painful.

I still don't understand why players requesting trades means anything. They're under contract. What is Hellebuyck gonna do, not play?

Distraction/toxic locker room.

I don't buy that.

If this sh*t worked players all around the league would be demanding trades constantly. Why aren't they?

That’s always the question, but it remains pretty significantly rare for a team to end up keeping a player who has made a demand/request long-term. There must be a near consensus league-wide that it’s not worth it to tell them to shut up and play.

No one would care if Beck Malenstyn wanted a trade.  He's a minor player.  You don't want your top players having a bad attitude though.

I've wanted him here since he was in junior.

I think the fact that almost all trade requests are eventually satisfied shows it does work.

Again, what was Tkachuk going to do? What is Larkin going to do?

I am gonna float this.....what if Winnipeg was willing to accept this deal:

Hellebuyck

For

UPL and Helenius

Thats it, no extra picks, no other prospects, if it was just UPL and Helenius would you do it?

Man I am really torn....

I'm highly confident Helenius is the best player on this team before his ELC is up. He has a skillset that no other player on this team has, and we've seen he can produce against the bets of the best. The only player I'm trading Helenius for is McDavid.

Probably has to do with them seeing their window closing as they're getting long in the tooth and pretty sure they've been spinning their wheels the past couple of year until they took a big step back this year.

Trading him for a big haul at 33 could go a long way towards getting a rebuild off to a good start.

Personally, wouldn't want to trade him away, but when these guys want out they seem to get their wish.

Yes, you can make them stay but in both cases, do you really want your captains telling the world they want out? In Tkaczuk’s case he wasn’t ever resigning there so they had little choice. Larkin has a long term deal but again, do you want your captains telling and face of the franchise pouting and complaining?

UPL + Mcloed + Mrtka or our first would be a pretty good deal for them and us. We actually would save cap in a move like that

I'll drive them myself if they take that

So this guy is just saying that Buffalo would be a good landing spot. Is there anything that actually links him to us?

This is the state of “insiders.” They make a living talking non-stop and really saying nothing.

In his last 3 playoff seasons Hellebuyck's playoff save % has been .886, .864 and .866.  Hard pass.  I can get that level of piss poor goaltending from UPL, Lyon and Ellis.  At least Ellis still has upside.

What are you talking about? They just acquired Rosen and Bryson at the deadline.  These guys could be the ones to put the 'Peg 'over the top'.

Helenius, to the best of my knowledge, has never played against the best of the best.

In the playoffs this year, though, he scored two points, the same amount as Connor Timmins

And in the regular season, he piled up 1 point in 8 games against Carolina, Montreal, the Islanders, Toronto, LA Tampa and Pittsburgh, so there's that.

I believe this was part of segment where he indicated the Sabres were one of 6 teams Hellebuyck (who has an NTC) would consider a trade to. And I saw elsewhere second hand that Dreger also said the Sabres are a destination he would accept.

A trade for Hellebucyk or a UFA signing of Bobrovsky and this becomes a VERY interesting off-season.

If Bobo is all that then why isn't Florida hanging on to him?

Always knew there was a "long game" to the Comrie signing way back when.  😉

Good to have him putting in a good word for us.
