No link necessary. I know people. Zach's table manners were impeccable. Jarmo drank his soup.

Interesting as Zach had been back home in BC the last week. He is truly incredible

How many 7Million a year players can they afford?

Take the cap max and divide by 7M.

That's 14. How do you pay the other 9 players you need?

You have 14 great players. That’s enough isn’t it?

I think the Devils tried this once.

It did not work.

Wish the damn signing could happen so I wouldn't need to stress about an offersheet

Draft night, since the Sabres host. I expect several moves to be announced in intervals across Friday evening, including trading that 20th over all, maybe to move up, to keep us foaming at the mouth fans rabid for the drug that is now the Sabres 😁

At least, I’m counting on it as I’m going to my first draft ever.

You don’t think the Sabres would match any offer presented? I doubt anyone would go too high over $7.1 mill. The next tier starts at $9.4 mill.  I’d still sign him to that but holy ***** sticks, a GM would have to be unhinged to make that kind of commitment to another teams RFA player.

I’m just glad we aren’t falling victim to WGR pushing the narrative, as they did in previous years, claiming the only option was to trade the 1st for an established top 6 player. Not only is that wrong, the coffers need replenishment. All the good prospects have graduated. There are a handful of decent looking kids slated for Rochester this coming season but they could use some more forward prospects in the system.

Unless everyone is horribly wrong about youth on the team they shouldn’t need any prospects for about three years or more which fits right in with the timeline of being thin now. They only need to find one or two forward prospects per year for three years to be in great shape.

But it takes... how many? players to end up with 3 solid prospects?

There certainly isn’t a rush or many open roster spots but the Amerks are going to be a little thin on the youth movement.

I will be curious how this GM values the prospect pool. It was one of the first things Adams said when he got the job. We have to build the pipeline. It was in shambles when he took it over. He traded all the good assets away and rebuilt it. Will this be maintained? Will it go back to almost nothing? Will it be something in the middle? I have no idea how this will play out.

Not to mention the offer sheet limit is five years, meaning if a team signs him to more than five years, it's the total divided by five rather than the number of years. Which is why you're never signing an offer sheet over five years unless you were planning on exceeding the upper limits any

You're not kidding. Jeremy & Joe want Jarmo to sell the farm to get an elite player. They are 100% sold on the LA Rams/VGK model of trading all your picks and building through free agency and trades.

The Sabres have the following players on the roster, under contract or under team control for a minimum of:

  • Josh Doan 7 years
  • Rasmus Dahlin 6 years
  • Konsta Helenius 6 years
  • Owen Power 5 years
  • Noah Östlund 5 years
  • Jiri Kulich 5 years
  • Tage Thompson 4 years
  • Josh Norris 4 years
  • Mattias Samuelsson 4 years
  • Zach Benson 4 years (and, if reports are true soon to be 7)
  • Ryan McLeod 3 years
  • Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen 3 years
  • Tyson Kozak 3 years
  • Jack Quinn 2 years
  • Peyton Krebs 2 years

That's not counting drafted players not on the roster like Wahlberg and Mrtka.

The system definitely needs a fresh injection of talent, particularly up front. But they've set themselves up with plenty of time to rebuild the system before these guys need to be replaced, assuming they do.

Which would be absurd for this team.

And, btw, they already DO have an elite player.  He's the captain of the team and his last name is Dahlin.  😉
