If it got that far normally a player would sign it and see if the current team would match. Having said that unless a team is trying to best his bridge contract I don't see someone dropping an offer on a long term deal. Half the teams don't have the picks and giving up an unprotected 1st is a non starter for a lot of the others. 1 Quote

That point would be incorrect. In most cases, the agents are handling the contact with teams and taking offers in isolation and then presenting those options to the players. That’s their job. In some cases, a player may tell them proactively “hey, I only want to be in Buffalo” or similar, but the agent will still field calls and hear what other teams have to say, because they need to be prepared. Though I guess I could be ignoring the literal meaning of your post, as what I know from front offices is that in many cases they won’t get into the gritty details of a contract (especially not an offer sheet) without knowing they have at least a chance at a signature.
