It does seem though that he wasn't going to sign here no matter what though.

He thinks he can be a first pair Dman and I don't blame him for pressing for that opportunity.  Is he?  Well, not on the Sabres.  That's why he wanted to move.

My prediction is that this season he will look bad in the top pairing role.  To really get to where he wants to be, he's going to need a team structured similar to the Sabres and the Hawks aren't that.  However, if the proper structure is instituted in Chicago with a strong backcheck from the forward ranks, he will be able to play well enough to shut down the naysayers.  Eventually.

Well, Jarmo said that BB wouldn't negotiate at all, and I haven't heard of BB or his agent disputing that description.  That plus the consistent message we've heard about him wanting to be the top dog, plus him signing in Chicago where he is indisputably the top dog,  makes me think that this was likely one of those unusual situations where the top dog role was critical to him.

I've seen one of the insiders (pretty sure it was Friedman) say confidently Byram's camp opened with something like 4x$12.5M and a "take it or leave it"

That's what Kekalainen said on the podcast @PromoTheRobot posted a link to right after the draft (pretty sure it was the extended 32 Thoughts draft recap) that that is exactly what Byram's camp came in with and Jarmo said he'll leave it because he'd have to go through this same process again in 4 years and he didn't want to do that.  (Left unstated, 2 years in a row was enough.)

Watched the entire video... Their video is named "we all got the byram trade wrong", and I was curious what we all "got wrong.  But their eventual conclusion is that the price paid (both contractually and for the trade) was too high and that he is best suited as a 2 or 3?  What am I missing (serious question)?  Or is it just a poor title?

Is the part that we "got wrong" the interpretation of his poor analytics by some models?  We all kind of know that already.. he's a minute eater that can provide some positive finishing off the rush.. but that doesn't necessarily lead to great analytics.

The title is probably mostly akin to “you won’t BELIEVE what Matt Damon says is the key to his youthful good looks.”

And as previously stated in whatever other thread that video was being discussed, except for him harping on how bad Byram is at retrievals, every point he brought up had been covered by the folks at this site for quite some time.
